One of my BFF's just got engaged 2 weeks ago and has decided that she is getting married in Mexico Labor Day weekend. I'm over the moon for her and would drop anything and everything to be there. EXCEPT... I'm due July 8th. Which if things go as with the first LO I will go a week past that. Regardless if I have the baby in July and the wedding is Labor Day Weekend we are looking at 7-8 weeks post-part. I had complications the first delivery (full episiotomy) so I wasn't released until 18 weeks PP. Now I fully get that every delivery is different and I might not have those same issues. But at 7-8 weeks I just can't see dragging myself and a newborn through an airport, on a plane and to a foreign country. I just think about the logistics of diapers, breast-pump, ointments for his belly and circum, pads/meds for me, etc etc etc. Not too mention the risk of disease for the baby at this stage. People are telling me that I'll be fine and just go with it. But I just don't think I physically or mentally would be up for it at that stage. Anyone travel this soon after birth? If so where did you go? Would you dare do it again?

I would not do it. I wouldn't travel to Mexico without baby having the Hep A & B vaccines, and we would not do those before that timeframe. Also, for my own health, I imagine seeing that on the calendar would add extra pressure to be well.
It's a hard choice. You're not wrong for questioning it.

I did with a straightforward recovery from a c-section, but I think it's really up to what you're comfortable with!

I wouldn't do it. Could you even get a passport for your LO that quickly? It took us a couple weeks to even get the certified birth certificate, and then a few more weeks for the passport.

Absolutely not! Traveling that far with an infant just screams for trouble. I would just apologize and say I love you, but I'm sorry.
And it looks like she just made these plans, so if it's that important that you be there, she should be willing to change the date.

We had the same situation! LO was due Aug 13 and we had a wedding to attend in Mexico the second week of October.

Nope. I'm nervous about taking my 12-14 week old to my BIL's wedding and that is drive-able, and I will have my in laws AND my parents there! Wedding out of the country at 7-8 weeks? As much as it would break my heart, I just could not do it. Be gentle with yourself! Trust your gut--- I can't believe anyone is pressuring you to go!

In theory I would like to say I would go but I know if it actually came down to it, I wouldn't be able to do it. Although way easier at that stage rather than later on for me. We almost took a family vacation when LO had just started solids and the thought of how I would feed him and not have him get sick totally consumed me and we cancelled. At least with a FF/BF baby that part is much easier!

I would not be comfortable with that. I wasn't comfortable having LO around a lot of people until she had her first round of vaccines, let alone flying.

One of my BFF's is getting married 2 months after baby dos' edd. In Chicago, (5 hour drive away), and I had to step down as a BM. I just couldn't imagine traveling w a nb 6/7 weeks old, or going alone and trying to pump etc.
So all that to say, you aren't being unreasonable.

Do not go. I gone there quite often (mainly Cancun) and I always get a mild stomach bug, not bad enough to ruin my trip, but nonetheless. Also, I would be worried about the weather there it is hot and humid (lots of Mosquitos) and if you are not use to that type of weather it can be hard to handle. I don't plan on taking my LO until he is at least 3 years old. But if you do go drink only bottled water if you want like fresh lemonade ask that they make if with mineral water and do not eat raw veggies(i.e. Lettuce, tomatoes, etc.).

We flew from the East Coast to Texas at 8 weeks to visit family. Actually, the day after his 2 month shots. I had an easy delivery. I don't know if I would travel to Mexico though.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with international travel at that point and I'm pretty much on board with anything in the young infant stage when they're so portable.

No way. I have a 7 week old right now and I won't even take her to the store yet because there's just too much going around. Plus the lack of sleep would make travel all the more difficult.

TBH, yes I would go. But I have FOMO to the max. We traveled to DC when my LO was 6-7 weeks old. It went fine. They can't really move around and aren't putting everything in their mouths yet. And they are lulled to sleep with the white noise of the airplane.

I wouldn't. Personally I'm not comfortable with air travel, particularly international air travel, at that age.

With how much recovering you had to do the first time I wouldn't want to plan a trip that soon. Recovery could be different this time but I wouldn't want that added pressure.
Plus I wouldn't travel before the first round of shots.

I did, and I thought it was a breeze. We flew to the UK for a wedding. Having said that I had an easy birth/recovery.
It is entirely up to YOU. If you don't think it will work, don't even consider it!!!

oh hell no i am not dragging my newborn to a foreign country. When your friend becomes a mommy, she will fully understand (hopefully she won't be upset). But until then, she will just have to understand you are just trying to make the best choices for your little one.

Would not leave the country with a less than 2 month old unvaccinated baby.

I wouldn't do it. You probably wouldn't be able to obtain a passport that quickly either, unless you pay the expedited fees.

I'd probably do it, but we can get the first round of vaccinations at 6 weeks so that would be done before we left. I also EBF my babies so the water wouldn't be an issue, and with my second I was fully recovered and back to normal within a week (with the exception of some light bleeding that continued for another week and a half). I honestly don't see what would be so hard about going, but that is based solely on my experiences with having two babies.
ETA: DD2 was 8 weeks old when we moved from Australia to the UK, via the US, and it really wasn't that hard.

Nope nope nope! There's no way I would do this! Even if I left the baby at home and wasn't breastfeeding, I wouldn't go! And I definitely wouldn't bring my baby.

I am pretty relaxed about a lot of stuff but no way! No way I would take a newborn to Mexico. Heck I have to go to Mexico in November for a wedding and I don't even want to go.

I would not, I can't imagine taking a baby without shots onto a plane/in an airport/to a foreign country. I would be more willing to leave baby for 2 days so I could attend the wedding, fly in for ceremony and fly home. It would suck but I would rather do that than risk my baby's health.

Thank you so much for all the comments. They are reassuring my thoughts and feelings. We've talked about the passport being an issue, but my DH is a pilot and there is an office here for them to renew passports and it not take forever. So he would go there. I'm like most of you on the vaccines. I can't remember here when we get the first set. Concerned about recovery. I was a hot mess for several weeks after. And I only had 1 baby. This go around I'd have a toddler to figure into the equation. This wears me out just thinking about it! Thank you all again for your open and honest comments!

I would not go, especially since your baby is just starting to build up his/her immune system around that age. I wouldn't want to risk it. I missed out on pretty much all of my close friend's wedding b/c of the births of both of my boys. They all got married during the years I had my kids. One got married locally just a week after I had my first. They were understanding about it and we're still close friends up until this day.

I could barely manage taking DD out of the house, let alone travel by plane to Mexico! My friend was in the same situation though it was within the US. Her bff understood that she wouldn't be in the wedding (she was going to be a bridesmaid!).
