My crap Evenflo pump is dead as a doornail. I need to pump though! So I'm looking at buying a new one. Which do you suggest? I'm a SAHM who needs to pump only occasionally for outings. My birthday is coming up and I am hoping to leave Scribble all day for the first time. He refused bottles for so long that I have no stash built up! Sadly we are so in sync that our nursing leaves little milk....so I need a good pump! Would like one that I could use with another LO, God willing of course.

I don't have any experience with the Medela but I have been using the Ameda the past couple weeks. It gets the job done but I'm not really that impressed so far. I get more milk (and faster) with my manual lanisoh. I just told DH that I wish I'd bought 4 manuals instead of the Ameda (so I could wash them less
). I do like that it will run on batteries so I can roam around the house.

@charlotte: do you ever hand express? I ask because I am usually able to hand express better than pump but I assumed this was due to the pump! Maybe I should start with a manual? Although I am not in newborn mode when I had a really plentiful supply....

I really don't know anything about the Medela swing, but I have an Ameda Purely Yours. It's been working great for me for the last 5 months. One thing I liked about Ameda is that it's a closed system and reviewers on Amazon said they had wonderful customer service. Many said when their pump stopped working, they were over nighted a new one.

I have the Ameda and it's ok. I usually get more with it than the Medela manual I have, and somewhat more with the manual pump vs hand expression. I am also borrowing my sister's Lanisoh double electric and I think I like it better than the Ameda.

I think I may go with the Ameda. I am used to a closed system and the idea of tubing condensation drama annoys me!
@78h2o: is your lanisoh the "affinity"? I have read that the regular lanisoh double electric is actually the same as the ameda?

Yes, the Affinity. My sister said that it's the same but I'm not sure how. I like that hers has a letdown button (on the Ameda you turn the speed up), a timer, and padded flanges.It's a little noisier though.

FWIW I hated that Lansinoh double electric! So noisy and weak suction. You may want to try the Lansinoh manual ... It's cheap but it always worked like a charm for me.

I have the Medela Freestyle (the double electric) and love it. From what I can tell, the Swing is just the single electric version of the pump. Highly recommend!

I use Ameda 3x a day 5 times a week and nightly on the weekends and it's been a great work horse!

I have a Swing and really like it. It gets the job done, but there are times that I really wish I had a double pump just because it takes so long with a single.

I have the swing and love it, but I'm a SAHM so I really only use it a few times a month. I used it a lot more when DH was younger, I find it works great - way better than my manual lansinoh.

Sorry, my Internet has been out - so annoying! I haven't really hand expressed. For some reason the manual just works better. Maybe the flanges fit me better? I think I read some Ameda reviews saying the user changed flange sizes and it helped. I still can't imagine being happier than I am with my manual lanisoh though! (Assuming same as mrs. Yoyo).

Got the Ameda! I really enjoy having a closed system. Hope it works out for me! Would love a Medela but the Ameda seems to be suited for my needs, which are minimal.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: how's the Ameda working for you? I know this thread is old but I wanted to come back and update my opinion with this:
I took the silicone "comfort cups" off my lanisoh manuals and put them on the Ameda flanges.....huge difference! I think I just had a bad fit before.
