What kind of advice are you looking for? I'm a self-employed freelance translator and have been doing it for 8 years. My operation is pretty basic since it's just me and I don't need to hire any employees/outsources, other than an accountant.

My husband runs a private Law practice out of our house. I would say having a good accountant and bookkeeper is key, plus a shared Google calendar to see all his appointments. Automate what you can.

I manage an independent financial advising firm. We're set up as an LLC and I handle all the legal stuff, book keeping, payroll, etc. All the income flows through to the principals and their personal CPA doesn't the taxes. If I can help with any specific questions let me know.

@Mrs. Microscope: That sounds cool!
@lamariniere: I need help with time management. My 2 month old has an inconsistent schedule. Between him and my 5yo its sometimes hard to manage.
@gingerbebe: Thanks! My husband and I were talking about automation last night. He works a full time job and has a side business as well.
@Truth Bombs: That sounds cool! Do you work in an office or at home? I'm having a hard time setting up office hours.

@FancyGem: we rent offices from a company called Regus. They provide basics furnishings, handle all the utilities and provide shared spaces like kitchen and conference rooms as well as receptionist support. They are all over the country so worth looking if they have space in your area.

@FancyGem: can you hire a nanny for a few hours a day, or even just 2-3 mornings a week so you can take care of the most important aspects of your business undistracted? My business really started to take off when LO1 was right around 2 months old. Frankly, it was terrible timing. He was an awful sleeper (and remained that way the whole first year) and I struggled to find time to work on my projects and was in a constant state of anxiety, both new mom anxiety and “how am I going to meet this deadline” anxiety. I didn’t have any help during the day, but in hindsight, I should have hired someone. It was a very stressful time. I didn’t have regular childcare help until my son was 2 (long story), but once I did, I was able to be much more productive and much less stressed. When LO2 came along, I didn’t even attempt to work for the first few months and then hired a morning baby-sitter (the older LO was in full time care by then) so I could work undistracted. That was a MUCH better situation.

@Truth Bombs: I will look into that. Thanks!
@lamariniere: I am considering getting a nanny. My husband's work schedule is flexible so I will do my best to work around it for now, but I will hire someone ASAP.
