We're moving tomorrow morning, and we're gearing up for a huge packing push!! Soooo looking forward to this ha. It's only a six block move, but unfortunately we still have to pack everything up.
Any moving tips for us?

No moving tips that I can think of right now, but wishing you lots of luck! I hated packing/unpacking!

Get the kids rooms situated first so they feel at home and have a safe place to play!

Label things! We used florescent colored index cards and labeled the rooms (Like kitchen, living room, front bedroom, master bedroom, etc.) It will make things easier when unpacking! I also tried to list a few things on the card of what was in the box. I also had a little more time than a day to pack

Good luck!
I used colored duck tape and each color had the coordinated room (e.g. blue was dinning room, pink was master bedroom, orange was kitchen). The movers didn't really pay attention too much to it, but at least that way I could easily point them to where each box should be! And also label what is in the box to the best of your ability/time. Then you know where to look if you really need a fork and don't have to dig through 5 boxes of kitchen stuff!

I drew out the floor plan of the new place and labelled the boxes according to that plan, because if you label a box "bedroom" and you have three of them, how do they know where to put it?
Also, lightbulbs, paper towel, toilet paper and clorox clean up in a moving box, just in case.

Have kids food and sleeping stuff readily available. Also our girls freaked a little during the move-- like we were going to forget them or their beloved stuff... Keeping out favorite stuffed animals really helped
Good luck!

Pack a bag for each kid as though they are going on a trip, food, clothes, lovies etc to have readily available.

I had one box for things we needed right away.
We also labelled the bedrooms (#1,2,3) so they/we would know which boxes went where.
Good luck!

@RubyCali: Just finished packing my books... next up: the kitchen dishes!! Hope you're farther along than we are... our moving truck is coming in 9 hours!

I find it's helpful to write exactly what's in each box, you know, down to book titles and number of forks, so I can find things I need later.
DH says to put up and make the beds first, so that when you're tired and wanna sleep at the end of the day you don't have to do it then! kids beds too, of course
and what @plantains: said. we do this for ourselves as well as the kids!

No advice but good luck! Moving is always stressful/fun/tiring and I don't look forward to doing it with a kiddo in tow!

@mrbee: We ran out of boxes! All of my initial boxes were neatly labeled with color coded stickers corresponding to a specific room. Yeah, that's not happening anymore. Now it's a matter of finding anything that can be used to transport items (purses, trash bins, laundry hampers, etc.) and throwing in whatever fits.

@RubyCali: oh no!!! Hope it all comes together for you!!!
Still slogging away over here. Another hour and I'll be done with the glassware and dishes... then onto the pantries, pots and pans!

Hope the rest of the packing went well! We always pack in clear tupperware, so that we know what's in each thing. I also label everything, and I only put things from one room in each box.
When we get there, I like to clean before we unpack. We also always do the kitchen first, because having a put-together kitchen makes everything easier somehow!
Good luck! And to you, @RubyCali:

Have one large and one small box open at the start of the day and label them "last box". You will be amazed what is found under beds, closets that failed to make it into boxes. I also put TV remotes and power strips in those boxes so they were the first items to come out. Also, have zip lock bags and tape at the ready for when you take down book shelves, furniture that is mounted to the wall, curtain rods, pictures, etc - you place all the small pieces in the zip lock bag and tape it to the back of the furniture prior to it being loaded on the truck. Then all the pieces are in one place when the movers need to put it back together. Don't pack your tool box! Since you are renting...fill all the nail holes with white toothpaste - it is a lot easier than spackle and you can "wipe off" the extra without a need to sand the spackle no one can tell the difference.
