We did it through modernclothdiapers.com. Good customer service and great option to try multiple diaper types as well. My daughter grew fast and we had to move to one-size cloth around 8 weeks old. Let me know if you have questions.

@twodoghouse: my sister had twins and often talks longingly about how much $$ they'd have saved if they'd done cloth. they were both very late to potty train, like 4+ (preemies and had some complicating health issues). I've heard great things about newborn rentals, also keep in mind that if you buy they have resale value!

We did the rental from Diaper Daisy (http://www.diaperdaisy.com/Newborn-Diaper-Rental_p_212.html) and I will totally do it again if we ever have another. We got 20 Kissaluvs Size 0 and 5 Thirsties XS covers and it was perfect. They have changed owners in the past year or two so the rental is a bit different than when I rented (3 years ago, gulp!) but I'd probably turn to them again since it was such a great experience.

we did a rental, which for one, i wouldn't do again as we used disposables for the first week or so until her stump fell off and then we only used them for a month as she plumped up quickly so we were able to use our BG 4.0s quickly.

for twins, i would assume they would be in NB size longer as they would be born smaller, so i would try to find used NB on sale. i bet you would be able to find them easily and really get great use out of them! CDing in the first 6 months before solids was actually easier than now that she has solid poops that we have to rinse out!

I sparingly used cloth when H was a newborn, and for the next one I won't hesitate to do it. Have you looked into a diaper service? I don't know if your town has them, but ours does, and the price is comparable to disposables.

I used kissed by the moon and really liked them. I could rent any of the diapers they carry, new ones, and all of the deposits turned into store credit, so it only cost $30 per month, essentially.

This is such a helpful post! I've debated cloth diapering but using a service to do it (no laundry in unit, I'm lazy, etc.). I was actually looking it up today and it seems like they provide the inserts and not the covers? So I don't know now...

@avivoca: I think I could handle that. I do laundry every week or two now (for things that can't be dried so we don't have it done). And, from what I've read, buying covers can be quite the addiction

@LindsayInNY: I'm hoping the rental service will help me and the DH get used to CD during the early stages. My coworker used a service that dropped off clean diapers and they washed the dirty ones each week.

@Lindsayinny I don't know if you are in NYC but, I plan on using diaper kind when my LO comes in Feb. I hear great things about them from friends.

My Mon cloth diapered and it's what I know best. I am looking forward to it. But maybe not the extra trips to the laundromat with covers....

We've been using a diaper service since birth. At first they suggested a newborn size prefold, which was fine the first week (though he needed the smallest covers I could find). Then we took 2 weeks off after the circ, and he was suddenly soaking through the newborn prefolds quickly. I called and they said that they only recommend the newborn inserts for the first week (but didn't let me know!) Anyway, love the convenience of the service, but don't bother with newborn inserts. Worst case scenario is baby has an extra big butt in the beginning!
