Dallas County's 13 district judges and five family court judges are waiving the usual 72-hour waiting period between receiving a marriage license and performing the ceremony. They have reserved extra space within the courthouse to accommodate the large crowds they expect., and have extended hours.
(For Texas, this is unbelievably awesome!)

@MrsLonghorn: I'm biased as a former resident, but I've long thought of Dallas (well, all the major cities in Texas) as bright shining stars in sea of the social backwardness that can sometimes be Texas. Go Dallas!

I seriously just jumped up and did a fist bump at my desk....and it might be pregnancy hormones but I'm about to cry. My mom is gay, and my best friend is gay and is planning a wedding for this fall (I'm giving her away). This is such great, wonderful, amazing news!

This is awesome news, especially for my sister who is trying to divorce her (coo-coo as coco puffs/abusive) wife. I'm so excited for her and the other couples that want to get married AND divorced!

@lawbee11: whoa-kay...um. To be fair, I at least could see the rationale behind his argument yesterday. I want to read his dissent, but I'm not sure I can come up with a reason why he would write that. Holy moly.

@lawbee11: I just read Roberts' dissent. There's a lot to think on in there, even as the decision is appropriately heralded as landmark. I think he's right-this isn't the last time this issue will be before the Court.

Ok, so after reading the decision, here's my question: regardless of what one feels about same sex marriage, is there anything to the accusations of judicial overreach mentioned in the dissent (I'm thinking about Alita in particular). I am glad for the ruling, but I am curious

ETA: what's so funny is the outright ignorance of these people. Why would you move to Canada? Canada has always been more liberal than the U.S. This whole "moving to Canada" thing started in the 60s with liberals/hippies/pacifists who opposed the Vietnam war and felt like they didn't have a voice in the US. They wanted to get out of the US and go somewhere that more aligned with their values. Right wingers saying I'm moving to Canada is absurd!
