I am 4 days pp and we have been on cloud 9 with our perfect new baby girl...We had her first appt today at the Ped office, and they sent us to have her levels checked bc she was a little yellow here and there. Long story short, her blood tests came back as severely jaundiced, with a score of 21. It was 9 when we discharged on Thursday. We got admitted to the Peds Unit immediately, and she's in a lttle bassinet under the Bili Light until we can get her levels WAY down.
Obviously, I have cried my face off all day at my tiny sweet girl having to go through all of this poking and prodding...And we can only hold her to BF, and even that has to be done with the Bili Light mat laying under her.
I know this is minor in the grand scheme of things that could go wrong....But her Ped said levels over 25-30 can cause neuro damage- FREAKED me out that she wasn't too far below that!!!! I am just really upset, I want my baby to be okay and I want to bring her home and hold her close and never put her down.
Did anyone else have a jaundice issue that required this treatment?
I cannot believe this:(. She is barely yellow! The Ped thought she'd be in the 10-12 range which is slightly higher than they prefer. He was shocked at how high she was. Which made me even more upset that it was double his already-high assessment...
