We're about to purchase one. If we love it, we're ditching cable once we move and purchasing one for every room (our bedroom, living room and DS's bedroom). We're getting the Roku 3.

My DH will not stop talking about this thing. I still don't really even know what it does. I am thinking about getting him one for Father's Day. Let me know how you like it!

We have the Roku 3! We love it! Our most used apps are Aereo (over the air HD channels and DVR), Netflix, and Amazon Prime. All paid services but doesn't add up nearly close to what cable plus DVR costs us.

Yes! We use it instead of cable, just need a netflix and Hulu subscription and you're all set!

Yes!! We love ours!! I do think you need Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, or Amazon to really enjoy it though. Or some combination of those! There are a lot of free things, but if you want to watch current shows, you need a subscription to one/some of those. Weve never had cable and we feel spoiled by the Roku!!
@lawbee11: it turns your tv into a smart tv!

@citymouse: I have hulu and netflix. Does ESPN give access to football games? That is DH's biggest concern.

@Dandelion: sporting events are the one big thing if you have Aereo or an over the air HD antenna (I think we bought one for $11) you can get network channels to catch local games.

@Dandelion: the ESPN we have, its not every channel. So we dont have access to some games we really like College Basketball and did miss some of the games we wanted to watch. Not sure if they have different ESPN options though!

We have one for the fam room.
I find it so easy to use. Plus when my husband works crazy hours at home he plugs in the headset to not disturb me. We still have a cable package that allows us to have Bravo and AMC.

We just got a Roku 2 for the bedroom. But, we still have cable so we have access to the Disney Junior app and a couple of others that come with our cable subscription. But overall, I love it. It is so easy to use!! Plus, the headphone in the remote feature is awesome for a bedroom TV.

We've used Roku for years and haven't missed cable one bit! We're definitely not big sports fans, though! When we go other places, it's so weird to see commercials!

Oh we kept cable in the living room, but we have the internet tv in there and then just the Apple TV in the spare bedroom. For me it wouldn't replace cable, but I can't imagine watching netflix only on a laptop!

We Have one in our living room and bedroom. We love them. Dh was so happy they now have the espn app. We have two places and one has cable and the other doesn't. Since we do have cable, we get all the games, etc. on the espn app. He is so happy.

So is this a 1 time fee kind of thing? I tried to look at the website but was confused when I clicked on the channels tab. I have Netflix and Amazon prime, do I need anything else to be able to watch normal channels? Right now we pay 160 a month for cable and it would be nice to lower that. Oh but I would still need TLC and the Food network channel. Does anyone know the answer to my questions haha?

@anonysquire: apple tv/roku cannot "replace" cable. It allows you to watch netflix/itunes/amazon prime on your tv as well as some access to espn and other apps. But it doesnt allow you to watch things that you could otherwise watch in real time cable.
Eta: you also can use it as airplay from your phone too which i love for listening to music.

@hotchildinthecity: so if you can already watch those things on your Xbox and play station it's pointless?
nectarine / 2272 posts
@anonysquire: correct. It serves the same purpose. I dont have a video game system so i use it for that.
