I'm starting to think by feel that my stitches didn't hold (I'm too chicken to look). Anyone else have this happen? How did they fix it? Was it basically like recovering all over again?

I was absolutely convinced that my stitches had ripped or torn about a week after I delivered. It hurt so badly. I went back to the OB who said they were still intact but they'd rubbed and some of my skin down there was excoriated. I had to start actually taking it easy and using LOTS of cream.

I got brave and looked . I'm five weeks pp and it looks like both sides of my tear healed but not together. They never hurt like crazy or anything and I took it easy so I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid but going to try to get into the Dr earlier than Dec 14. This sucks

I had ONE stitch and it fused where it shouldn't have, so I had to have an outpatient excision. It was causing me so much pain. Honestly, new stitches and scar removal was NOTHING compared to PP recovery!! And I had pretty minimal pain after number 2 (aside from where the scar tissue stuck together)

@blackbird: glad to hear it wasn't too bad. I'm just wondering if both sides are healed if they're going to have to recut or what....

I had some scar tissue and granulation. I ended up having to take a few more weeks on pelvic rest to let it heal once they got it taken care of.

@MamaBear87: I had both sides cut away but it healed SO great and I had zero discomfort 6 weeks later when my stitches fell out

@blackbird: ugh another 6 weeks! Now I wish I had listened to myself and gotten it looked at way before now. So the new set of stitches stayed in for 6 weeks?

Thanks for the responses! Makes me feel like it at least isn't the end of the world.
@blackbird: @avivoca: did your Dr just do it in the office?

@MamaBear87: It was done in office and they only had to use the silver nitrate. It burned like hell but healed correctly the second time.

Bump. Anyone else? Of course I'm now freaking out about this and I can't even call the office and make a sooner appt because the office is at lunch

@MamaBear87: yeah. I had different stitches the second time around. And it was outpatient surgery, so they put me under with propofol for it. Only about 20 min

@blackbird: just made an appt for tomorrow morning. At least hopefully this way I can get it done before the first of the year. Yuck if I have to be put under...

I had to do some self scar massage and mobilization to break up the scar tissue. Sex was crazy painful before doing that. (But not like I actually want to now anyway; I just want sleeeeeeeep)

Yep! I had to go back and get an incorrectly stitched/healed together part snipped after my first LO. It totally freaked me out, but it ended up being a quick procedure using a numbing agent, scissors and some kind of skin glue. I waited way too long to have it done! The discomfort was gone within days of the procedure.

Yes, with my first I ended up with a labial adhesion. They had to cut it and it was NOTHING like the original recovery-- 2 days later I couldn't even tell anything had been done.

Mine healed incorrectly but my insurance would not cover fixing it since I did not try to have it repaired within 12 weeks (I had 12 weeks of pelvic rest due to other complications) We're toughing it out for now, but it's not the best. Definitely have it looked at before it becomes "cosmetic" or "elective" to your insurer.

@mamabear87 I had a huge episiotomy and it felt so messed up- felt like my intestines were falling out and my vagina was gaping open like it didn't heal right. I went to my OB at 4 weeks PP and was so freaked out something was wrong.
I had a labia adhesion like @erinpye. My OB have me topical lidocaine and then clipped it and used silver nitrate. She did it in the office. It burned for a few hours and was tender for a while but then it got better. My OB told me that gaping open/organs falling out sensation would improve and it has.
Now at 13 wks pp it's all much better. Although DH and I only have tried to have sex once about 2 wks ago. Not horrible pain but pretty uncomfortable still. I guess it will take time.

I didn't think mine healed correctly either. Your description isn't very detailed, but it sounds like what I thought was going on, too. Everything healed correctly, things down there just are a bit different after you have a baby!

@sometimesshesings: @erinpye: hoping mine is easily fixed also.
@Mrs. Detour: thanks for the heads up. I'm only 5 weeks pp so shouldn't run into that.
@MrsADS: glad to hear your feeling better and it didn't take too long.
@catomd00: I think the top of my perineum didn't quite fuse together. In looking at it there are two definite straight edges which used to be connected. I have a drs appt in the morning, fingers crossed I'm just being paranoid and it just looks a bit different.

@MamaBear87: yep that's what I was thinking. Hope all goes well tomorrow!

My tear was an odd shape and they couldn't stitch it up perfectly. I now have a little flap of skin that is kind of weird but it doesn't hurt or bother me and my hubby hasn't ever seemed to notice. Recovery was hellish though, it took weeks for it heal because they couldn't stitch everything together and the loose edge would catch on my pad or undies.

For anyone who comes across this post. Dr says everything is totally fine and healing well. Things just look different after baby, especially while breastfeeding. Her advice was don't look lol! So glad I went and had everything checked tho

I had granulation tissue and had silver nitrate put on it to burn it off. That seriously hurt worse then having the baby.
