I haven't ever lived there but I got my very 1st speeding ticket ever in emporia when I was a senior in college!
2 yrs ago I got another one!
Apparently they are known for giving out lots of tickets so now I always slow down in that area.
My mom just called me and said 'Hey I just saw your friend in Emporia" Yep, she got a ticket!
I cannot imagine living there!!!

Never heard of it and I live in VA! I googled and it's apparently 3 hours and 21 minutes south of me

@Mamaof2: I warn EVERY SINGLE PERSON who ever comes down 95 to see us that they better not speed there. I swear, that town makes their money off speeding tickets. It is the worst place on earth. Seriously, if there was Hell on earth, it would be Emporia. Sorry if anyone lives there. I got a ticket there. My best friend got a ticket there. Another friend got a ticket there. UGH. I hate it.
So, how fast was your mom going? I swear they just upped their speed limits to 70 recently and I haven't heard as many complaints since.

I got a lawyer for my ticket 2 yrs ago and got it reduced to "defective equipment" - saved me lots of $$ and a reckless driving charge - they told me that anything over 80 in VA is considered reckless driving......

@Mamaof2: it is. I think anything over 10 miles over the speed limit is, as well. We don't need to further discuss it but I once got thisclose to going to jail for speeding in VA.

I live about an hour and half away. I've been through a couple times but never gotten a ticket!

I'm over an hour away & I drive through it most weekends during the summer on our way to the lake. I don't wanna jinx myself but neither DH or I have gotten a ticket....mainly because of all the people I know who has received tickets....it's a known speed trap, they make money off it.

I used to live about an hour and a half away, and I think I knew it was a speed trap. BUT, the best part of Emporia is a little joint called Logan's Diner. They have the BEST peanut butter pie ever.

We go through it on our way down South on 95. I've heard of tons of people getting speeding tickets on 95.

@Mamaof2: It's about 3hrs away from me. Yes, they are famous for giving tickets! I haven't had one...yet!
