Yes I did and it helped learn a lot about why I wasn't seeing the results I wanted to from exercise. I paid a lot of money to have an RD calculate my personal macros and I joined a 6 week group online program where we learned a ton of stuff and had lots of group support. I'm kind of a nutrition nerd so I really enjoyed it. Tracking (and weighing) your food is a huge chore though so you have to commit to it for several weeks to really learn and change your diet. I still haven't seen amazing results--it's certainly not a quick weight loss program, but I feel like I have the tools to make better choices now. So it depends on your goals...

@hellobeeboston I’m a dietitian and I do macros with my clients. There’s a learning curve in the beginning but once you get the hang of it, it’s very easy. It really helps improve your relationship with food once you realize that you can fit treats into your day while losing weight. Once you reach goal weight you can increase back up without gaining so that you can eat more overall.

I use the Carb Manager app to track my daily food intake to make sure I’m on the right track. I don’t weigh my food—so I guess I’m not super strict. But I try to be as accurate as I can otherwise (using small bowls with the ounce volume on them, etc.). Switching to Keto Chow for dinner definitely simplified things, though.

@Mrs. Pajamas: Thank you! I didn't realize you had to weigh food?! EEK. I'm not sure that will work for us... but I'm into the idea of a program to learn more about how it works to go along with it - i need to see if I can find something local.
@MrsKRB: Thanks! Yes, the reason I started getting into this is I feel like it's recommended by so many dietitians/nutritionists/trainers, etc... and it's not restrictive in that you have to only eat this vs. that....and that's what i want to find, something that I can learn, then apply without having to calculate, but just knowing what is the right balance.

@Hypatia: oh thank you - i hadn't heard of that app - I will check it out. Yeah, I just mentioned above, I can't imagine weighing my food at this point, if I'm close enough I think that should be fine... OK off to google "keto chow"......

I joined the "Faster way to fat loss" group at the beginning of the year. It's sort of an MLM type weight loss program where you mix up intermittent fasting with carb cycling. You track your macros and they change each day. The one thing that was eye opening is that I was losing weight by eating carbs. We all have been conditioned that carbs are evil. However, I was having trouble actually hitting my macros for the day. You needed to sort of plan out what you're going to eat for the day in advance and I had a hard time sticking to what I planned. Either my schedule would throw me off or I just couldn't eat that much in the time frame allotted. I figured out that I was eating too much protein and not enough carbs. I stopped doing it after a few months and just got back to intermittent fasting. I might go back to counting macros if what I'm doing isn't working but I'm working with my doctor currently so we'll see what she thinks about it.
