They said she was face up, but I didn't realize what that meant and didn't put 2+2 together when I had been pushing for over 3 hours!

When they transferred me to postpartum I overheard the nurses in bedside report and learned I had a placental abruption! It was small and just displayed as a very large clot when delivering the placenta. But still I was listening and like I did??!

At 38w I was sent to the hospital to check my blood pressure and for Pre-e. I had high bp, but always came back negative on the pre-e. They were going to induce me anyway because of the high bp, but found out during my discharge I had actually developed pre-e. I was like oh. That sound be fun for #2.

That he was face-up and had the cord around his next several times.

I think they spent a long time stitching me up (but what did I know) and mentioned something about it. Later I realized I had quite the abnormal tear up down there.

Honestly, I didn't know what time he was born until we got his birth certificate many months later. I knew generally it was very early morning but I was under general anesthesia so I had no idea his exact time of birth (3:22am). Also, his weight on the birth cert was different (lower) than what I was told.

I learned they sent my placenta to pathology for testing since T was low birth weight and I guess the placenta looked funny (per my husband who is a doc).

With C they were getting a little stressed because her heart rate wasn't responding well but I didn't take it very seriously- in my head the monitor just wasn't picking it up correctly. They used a vacuum to get her out quickly and it was fine but it was scarier for Dh who actually realized that everyone was worried.

I had no idea that I was hemorrhaging and they couldn't get it under control. I thought something was wrong with my daughter because they only let me hold her for a second. I don't really remember much after that because I lost so much blood. I narrowly escaped a blood transfusion! My husband said blood was just pouring off the bed.

I didn't know until later that the cord was wrapped so tight around DD2's neck, the dr was about to cut it off of her but they managed to get it off at the last second. She was purple:/. Her apgar was 8 bc of that.

When LO was born they (my OB and another doctor(?) nurse(?)) said they were calling up some NICU doctors to see her, which I figured was because she was supposed to get an EKG of her heart right after she was born. My OB told me after that she called them because she has birthed thousands of babies and has never heard one SCREAM as loudly and angrily as LO! She and the nurses were worried, so they called the NICU doctors up. LO remained angry for months, lol

@rachiecakes: Similar - he had the cord wrapped around his neck!! I heard the doctor say it casually to one of the nurses taking notes right when he was born but it was all kind of foggy at that point. About two days later I remembered and was like, what the hell!!?? Haha! Obviously everything was fine!

I still don't know exactly how bad it was, but I realize now how bad it could have been (too much googling). After LO was born (using vacuum assist because his heart was decelerating with contractions after 4 hrs of pushing), the room filled with people (maybe 12-15) and he was rushed to the other side of the room. He was covered in meconium, and wasn't breathing. I found out after that his APGAR score was 2!!! I don't know which of the factors he was zero on and which two he was one (or which one he was two). I have spent too much time thinking about this however. He didn't have to go to the NICU, thankfully, and his 5-min score was 8, so we were very lucky he rebounded so quickly. I only found the APGAR scores shortly before we were released, because they were on some paperwork.

I didn't know how close I was to getting a hysterectomy after LO 2 was born. I had a pp hemorraghage and my drs and nurses were very calm. I guess I should have suspected something when they kept me away from my husband and baby for hours!

LO2 was born with the umbilical cord around his neck, too. I had no idea until my husband mentioned it the next day.

- No one announced when I was crowning or when the shoulders / legs were out, so when they lifted him up, I was stunned he was born.
- They used the vacuum twice, had no idea.
- There were at least 4 nurses, I only remember 1.
-I pushed for over an hour, I thought it was like 30 min.
- My contractions at that point were 5 minutes apart, I felt like they were back to back... ev r y time they told me to push, I would moan and ask,"again??"
