Pretty much most people I know in real life and on blogs seem to put their baby's food directly on the tray of the high chair but never in a plate or bowl ( except for purees ofcourse) are plates not necessary?

We have always used plates and bowls...come to think of it, I haven't ever given my son food on his tray, even if it is cut up fruit. No idea why!

@looch: I think that's how I want to start as well. I don't know I just don't like the idea of throwing food onto the tray like that. It seems sloppy to me. I know they are just going to make a big mess but I want her to know from the beginning food belongs on a plate or bowl not on the table.

@regberadaisy: yeah, plus, when you're out somewhere, are you really going to be using a grubby restaurant tray or table for your kid's food? It's a lot easier for me to use tableware.

They use paper plates at daycare and I think we might start going towards those. When we use the cute plastic divided plates, she seems to want to pick up the plate and dump all the food.

@looch: good point!
I'm planning on using suction bowls.
