Are there any decent diaper pails for disposable diapers? Everything I have seen has mediocre reviews at best. Any recommendations?

I think expectations are too high. We have a diaper genie and it's fine. Nothing great but it hold diapers. It helps contain the smell except when we dot empty it for too long. Meh.

We ended up using a simplehuman trash can, and it's worked great. Only holds a couple days worth of diapers, which means we take it out too frequently for the smell (when there is any) to bother us.

I think people have unrealistic expectations of their diaper pails.
We just have an ikea trash can with an air freshener stuck on top, and we take it out frequently.

So, we put our sposies in an open grocery bag (until she gets mobile, that is) and don't notice any stink. Then again, we only use 1-2 a day. I have a simple Safety 1st can for my cloth and it works very well for the poopy cloth.

We also have the Munchkin Arm and Hammer. Honestly, I love it. I did not have high expectations, but it's pretty great. You can't smell it at all when it's closed.

We bought a Dekor pail at Target and love it so far. I wanted something with a foot pedal and it is easy to empty and contains the smell so far. It can also double as a regular trash can in the future.

I second @troberts1021's comments on the Dekor Plus. I bought it because it was at my Target for $10 (online only returned to store) but it actually does a good job holding in the smell. There was a period where the diapers definitely stunk (it smelled when we put a diaper in) but the room never smelled, even with the door closed when we weren't in there.
My LO is 6 weeks and EBF.

This one! Normal grocery bags fit in it, which we liked.

Nope. We put all poopy diapers into a plastic bag, knot it and put it directly outside in the trash can with our dog poops too. We have the diaper champ and for just pee dipes it's fine.

We have a diaper genie and it works pretty well at containing the stink...for explosives poops, I put it in a plastic bag and throw it out right away.

We are happy with our Dekor so far, but we are only eight weeks in and we have a 100% breastmilk-fed baby. So there is a lot is opportunity for the odor situation to devolve.

We do the same as @Bookish: but have this one: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/simplehuman-reg-brushed-stainless-steel-fingerprint-proof-semi-round-10-liter-step-on-trash-can/115164?categoryId=12099. Same size, just a different shape.

I have the diaper genie and like it a lot, it's a great height and contains the smell just fine. You still have to empty it regularly of course but it's been a life saver in our house.

@ElbieKay: oh man I miss the days of breast fed baby poops!! I don't remember them being stinky at all! Nowadays, however....

Anyone who says their diaper can doesn't smell is immune to the smell. They all stink at some point, sorry!

What really worked for us is using plain old freezer bags. We wrap all her poopy diapers in them and use a normal (small) trash can with lid. When she was younger and didn't eat solids, we had the Korbell diaper bin that we loved. We got the Angelcare one for free and thought it was pretty useless since the seal wasn't as tight.

Another Ubbi fan here! Love that I can use regular trash bags and it contains the smell.

I think the Ubbi is great. I realize how great it is every time I slide open the top to put another diaper in, and really get to smell what's going on in there!

We have a Diaper Genie, and honestly, it's worked great for us. No complaints!

We have the Ubbi and love it. It uses regular trash bags and doesn't smell at all when closed. We flush the poop so it doesn't stink when open but if you don't flush the poop you will get hit with a wall of stank when you open it to put in a new diaper.

I like our Diaper Genie. It does the job. We use the Target refills for it.

@ElbieKay: We have the Dekor.......just wait! There is no masking that solid poop smell

We had a Diaper Genie, but it didn't even contain the pee smell - let alone the poop. It stinks and barely holds any diapers, so we bought a regular step-open trash can for pee diapers. We put the poops in a plastic bag and put them in the outside trash.
ETA: I regularly Lysol the pee diaper trash can, because it can be really smelly when you open to put a new diaper in.

We love the Ubbi too for all of the reasons listed above. I recommend to all my new mom to be friends.
