Hmmmm, I am really not sure, but I would think yes. I know that you can get a clogged duct from not emptying your breast all the way. And since pumping is not as effective as emptying the beast as breastfeeding, you could be more likely to get clogged ducts. I know that for me, my breasts are always much fuller after I pump than after I breastfeed. And then clogged ducts lead to mastitis.
On the other hand, I rarely pump and I have had clogged ducts and mastitis.

I wondered the same thing after I got a clogged duct a week or two after I started exclusively pumping. I don't have an answer, though.

@Mrsdaredevil: Weird, I have had the opposite experience - my breasts feel much more empty after pumping than when I was BFing. Either way I hope I don't get a clogged duct or mastitis! When DS slept so long last night it got me wondering....

Knock on wood, but I pump daily and haven't had either one yet at 6 months pp.
I agree, I feel emptier after pumping too!

I feel emptier after pumping. I think it's because my supply is higher than what LO eats.

Good question! I've wondered the same thing. I had issues with both kids in the first two months when my supply was being established, and then never again.
My friend was ebf her second child and got mastitis, so I think it depends on too many factors to tell whether women who pump are more prone to clogged ducts.

I got mastitis twice and once was when I was EBFing and the other was when I was pumping. So I have no idea!!

I always get clogged ducts on my left breast. I make sure to always massage and empty it out (exclusive pumper) but I still get it. I have a theory that since I always sleep on my left side, the pressure that I place on my left breast must be causing the clogged ducts?

I hear women who use shields are the ones more likely for infection/clogged ducts.

I pump and breastfeed and I don't think I had any of those issues yet...I assuming I'd know....
