I try to be a good husband, but I'm sure I could be doing better!
Are you a good wife/husband/SO? What sort of criteria do you use to evaluate yourself when you think about stuff like this?

Yep. I know because my DH tells me so. I figure his opinion is what matters.

By my husband's standards I'm just okay. He would like to come home to a clean and tidy home and have a nutritious homemade meal ready for him every night.
I think he should just be happy I'm home and want to greet him with a kiss.

DH tells me I'm the best! I think he's pretty awesome too. We both have areas we can work on but I think in general we are doing a good job!

Ehhh...sort of? I think I'm good in terms of being supportive and all that good stuff, but I'm not really "housewife" material if that makes sense. I hate cooking and cleaning so he does the majority of that stuff...

DH tells me I am but I know I could do so much better! It's hard work juggling a full time job, husband, baby and housework.

I feel like I could be better. But we are just treading water in this infant stage for now.

I think we can always strive to be better, but so far I woulds say we agree that we are both good spouses to each other!

I think so. DH tells me often what a good wife and mom I am. I am thoughtful (for his birthday I hired someone to mow, rake, edge our lawn so that he wouldn't have to do it), but I often get frustrated with LO and take it out on him which makes me feel bad. I need to work on that!

I think I do an okay job. I let DH do pretty much anything he wants and I take care of a majority of the house chores. I do rag on him a lot though so I could be better at that. And I bottle up when I get upset, so I need to improve my communication skills there.

I feel we both do okay, after all, we're still kind of new at this parent thing, we have demanding jobs, so these are roles that are constantly changing.
I guess at the end of the day, we're happy most of the time, we agree on most things, so, yeah, good spouses.

I'm a work in progress for sure. I was a great spouse until I had a lot more on my plate - pregnancy, then baby, etc. It takes more conscious effort now.

I think we'd say we're both good spouses, but there's always room for improvement. I HATE housework, but I overhear him boast about how smart I am with my work and and how I manage the household finances and our expenses so well, so I know I've got more checks than minuses in his book. He does my dishes, so I'll love him forever. Hehe.

Probably not I don't feel like I do a very good job at being a good wife. I'm always nagging him!

He tells me all the time that I am the best. So I think so! I try and think about him, get him little things at the grocery store, make sure laundry is done, and do the finances. This way we can enjoy the weekend together since that is all we get together.

@yellowbird: ditto! I think I do great with the supportive, housework, mothering, ect. but I tend to be a nag even though I'm working on it. I just hate taht I bust my butt & he comes home and plops down on the couch. I've been working all day too, and now I'm cooking/feeding our child, please help me out or offer/ask if there's anything he can do! I wish he would remember to ask!
bananas / 9628 posts
yes, i am. i'm surely not perfect as a wife, but best believe i have put in the work & put up with/gotten through things i know many people would not have. we both work really hard to be good spouses for one another.

I do my best but I could definitely stand to be more kind to him as a whole. It doesn't take much these days for me to feel aggravated with how my day is going or something he said & ill pop off with something rude or sarcastic...it never phases him though & I'm rarely angry with him; I just struggle with being kind.
I was nicer during my pregnancy & I honestly think it's because my hormones were at a more steady level of a longer period of time versus the crazy hormonal spiral I normally live in but I'm responsible for how I behave, not my hormones. I've really been working harder to not be so snippy.

@LuLu Mom: yes!!!!! Why can't they ask so we do not have to nag! I hate the never ending cycle!
pomelo / 5820 posts
Probably not as good as I could/should be. I haven't been that pleasant to be around since my mom passed away. Also, I suck at cleaning/having dinner ready.
eggplant / 11824 posts
Sure I'm a good wife/partner: I love, respect and support him. Nobody is perfect, but that's what being a partner is all about, right?
I don't think housework or cooking has anything to do with being a good wife; so even though I'm an awesome cook, that has no bearing on my "wife"ness.

@LuLu Mom: @yellowbird: Haha you guys should create a reward chart with tasks that he has to do when he gets home!
I'm only half joking... I actually think that would work on me!
pomegranate / 3401 posts
I think so! However we have opposite styles (he's messy, I'm neat) so that often leads to nagging from me....
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
I think so! He tells me I am at least. Thankfully neither of us are type-a. He's messy and forgetful, so he has low expectations. That helps.

@mrbee: HAHA I can only imagine what DH's reaction would be! Better be a good reward
