@mrbee: Chicago has pretty similar weather to Minneapolis and sounds about right! It hasn't been nearly as snowy here as out east, but it's been in the negative temps for a few weeks straight now. It was 28 degrees yesterday for the first time in months and I acually opened my windows for a couple hours- was so nice to air out the apartment haha!
Our winters are notoriously six months long. I cannot wait to leave Minnesota.

@mrbee: haha definitely not- Minnesotans are tough as nails. Schools never close, businesses stay open. We're out every day!!! But we dress for it (well the smart ones do). We take J to the YMCA multiple times a week to swim and play so we deal with the cabin fever pretty well. His daycare provider takes him to open gym every week, we're at the library a lot- I guess you get "used to it".

@mrbee: ah yeah that's the hard part about NY. And I heard about closing the subway- that was a mess! I probably wouldn't get out as much if I had to walk everywhere!

We've had it -40, with the wind chill, several times over the last few weeks. I just looked up what -40 C was in Fahrenheit (since we're in Canada), but realized that it's the same. Pretty sure I knew that once upon a time (baby brain!). I get excited when the daily high is in the negative teens.

I am in Boston and this is the worst winter I've ever experienced. This February has already brought 10 times (!!!) the average amount of snow as well as more sub-freezing days than any February on record. We are on track to beat the record for snowiest winter. I haven't been able to use a stroller in over a month due to having only narrow paths through 10 foot snow banks. Public transit is a mess and has been closed or running only sporadically for weeks. Daycare was open only 3x per week for 4 weeks in a row due to snow. It's been really rough on everyone up here.

Yep! Snow was horrible last year but the below freezing temps and wind chill this year are almost unbearable! 20* days feel like spring!

It was okay until recently. Last week, we got 8"-12" of snow in the metro, my parents got over a foot, and my inlaws got almost 1.5 feet of snow. This is the south. It's horrible. My neighborhood hasn't been plowed so there is a lot of ice on the roads where the snow melts in the sun but it's so cold that it freezes every night. Nobody will clear their sidewalks either, so if you want to walk anywhere, you are walking in the road.

Nope. The only brutal thing has been all the marginal forecasts that get my hopes for a snowday in vain.

Everything @catlady: said! I live in the city and there are plenty of things inside to do, but you can't get to them! I can't use my stroller because of the narrow sidewalks and shoveling, and there is no parking at a lot of places. I use the carrier a lot but it's starting to really wear on my back. I can handle the cold we have been having but not the snow.

@mrbee: your friend may be exaggerating about the tunnels though. People have definitely built them but I think it's more a novelty than necessity.

Nope! We had a really warm Jan/Feb. November was cold...negative teens (F). It was snowy most of Dec and Jan but then warmed up. Now it's just typical late winter weather. Highs in the 30s, light snow every few days. Which I guess is still a little mild for this time of year.

No, it has been unseasonably mild here this winter.

Mostly all the snow has melted, although it's about 0°C / 32°F this morning. And I'm in Sweden!

@Mrs. Jacks: I was just about to post the same thing At least it's snowing today? I'm sure mad that I wore nothing but my loafers today...it was warm when I left my house this morning!

No. I wish we got some snow here though! It feels like winter never came....fall just blended into spring!

Not as brutal as last year in my opinion. Just freezing cold and unending. Last year I was pregnant when we had a huge ice storm. Lost power for a week

@mrbee: Yeah, we're in MN, too, and it doesn't keep us in. This winter, to me, has been very mixed. More days above freezing, I believe below-average snowfall, but also stretches of very cold temperatures. We go out most days anyway, but will often stick to the yard if it is particularly cold. That way if it feels dangerous to me at all we can come right in and warm up. For walking I just wear Lorelei. I think it'd be hard with a stroller. I don't mind walking as long as there isn't huge frostbite risk and well trek a few miles at a stretch, but if it's super cold I like to maintain easy access to an indoor/warm space.

I'm with @catlady and @Foodnerd81 (down the street actually!) -- Boston is miserable. There is nothing to do and I can't use the stroller. Wearing the baby is impossible because climbing the snowbanks and walking in the street is so dangerous too. I'm so over this winter. Cabin fever to the max! Thankful for wine...

I'd say it's been pretty normal, but normal is pretty darn cold here. I'm in Canada, and I guess I'm use to it, but I get tired of it, that's for sure. Today we had a cold warning in effect, I believe it was -40 celcius this morning. It's warmed up a bit now, but still cold.

We had some great weather in December and January though - many opportunities to make snowmen, so I'm trying not to complain too much this year!
