I was thinking it would be fun to incorporate St Patrick's Day into our dinner tomorrow. They are going to be talking about it at school and thought we could bring that home. I'm not sure what to make, though. I could just make beef and potatoes since I don't have a lot of time - could throw the beef in the crockpot. I don't like corned beef so it would have to be some other type of meat. Maybe a green dessert?

I usually make Guinness corned beef and cabbage but since DH has to work I'll prob do shepherds pie instead.
DH usually makes the corned beef! But we didn't last year and won't either this year.

I'm making shepards pie for dinner tomorrow. I did Lucky Charm Treats for the daycare party and I make Carbomb Cupcakes for the adults to eat. Other easy Irish classics would be Irish soda bread, fish and chips (you could do frozen with french fries) or bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes)

We go and eat every year at an Irish bar for my grandma's birthday. This is the first year she's not with us, it's going to be hard but the family is carrying on the tradition. I'll probably have a Rueben because it was her favorite.

Im making shepherds pie(technically cottage pie since I'm not using ground lamb). It's definitely a particularly authentic recipe but easy enough and the toddler will eat the pieces separately, but not once it's in pie form. And I bought Irish soda bread at the grocery store earlier this week.
We might make sugar cookies and decorate with green sprinkles too.

@LuLu Mom: omgosh Irish bars are way too crazy on St Patrick's day! Especially with young kids. People get so ridiculously belligerent. DH actually works right next door to a pub and there were already drunken idiots yesterday. I told him I don't want him to stay open tomorrow night.

@lovehoneybee: @yellowbird: just make sure to rinse the beef really well. The prepackaged ones are really salty. I prefer to rinse everything off then add my own spices and seasonings if buying store bought corned beef.

I make Irish Bram Brack. I'm not Irish, but my husband's maternal grandmother was, so our son is a 'wee bit Irish'. The recipe for the bread was from my boss at a company I worked for over a decade, he was like a second dad.
And we're in Boston , so I'll hear the music all night from our back porch

@lovehoneybee: we cure our own meats so we have pickling spice at home. Otherwise you can find them in the spice aisle. It's usually coriander seeds, mustard seeds, etc.

Lucky charms, green milk and granny smith apples at breakfast for DD, and Irish bangers & mash, for dinner. It's also my husband's name day, so I might pick up a key lime pie, for dessert.

I did our grocery shopping on Monday and basically just planned a week full of Irish-centric meals since that's what was on sale!
I made the corned beef with whole red potatoes and carrots in the crockpot on Monday afternoon so I can just reheat it for St. Patrick's Day when I get home, since I have to work that day. I love cabbage, but it makes my poor Irish DH's gout flare up so we do without it and add a salad.
Monday was Pi Day, so I made a Shepherd's Pie, but topped it with tater tots instead of mashed potatoes. That was actually a really frugal meal - I had the ground beef, mixed veggies, and tots already in the freezer!
Tonight I'm solo, so I'll probably just eat some leftovers, but after DS is in bed, the plan is to make some Irish soda bread to have with breakfast and dinner tomorrow, since its only good for a day.
I also have a package of bangers that I'll make some mashed potatoes and gravy for and serve it with a side of peas. I think that will probably be Sunday's dinner, since DH is out of town Friday night and we are going out for our anniversary on Saturday.
