DH and I started dating in high school and it didn't even dawn on me that we were "interracial" until someone in college flat out asked me the question and I was like "oh yeah, I guess we are!"

Yes! And both of our sets of parents were in interracial relationships. Well, mine were and dh's were from the same race but two countries that historically hate each other...

@plantains: @dc yoga bee: @mrs jazz: I had no idea that was a pet peeve! I'll be much more mindful of it now. (I loooove my friend's babies, she's black and he is Korean.) But of course, I love all babies.

I have Native American heritage, but not close enough down the line that I would consider myself of mixed race. We're plain ole white on white.

@plantains: @dc yoga bee: @mrs jazz: @Espion: We also hear "mixed babies are the cutest" so much, it's so awkward, I never know how to respond. I actually feel like it's a bit racist, as though it's desirable to have non-white ethnic traits but with light skin. DS1 is very light and DH's extented family thinks it's the best thing ever

Hate to throw my MIL under the bus (okay not really), but once she pulled out a picture of two random biracial children and put it in my face saying this is what our children will look like.....
Just yesterday she sent me a link of a project chronicling interracial famikies. weareth15percent.com or something like that. I said why all the need to try and point out difference. We are a family. Part of the 100% . Period. These were just a small sampleing of why we had to get the hell out of the south.
