I keep seeing people sharing the farmer's almanac prediction that this winter will be worst than last as far as temp and snowfall (in our area, at least!).
I'm already terrified of going into labor before induction during a snowstorm!!

Hard to believe that it could be worse than last winter. We shall see!

@Andrea: seriously. the words "polar vortex" make me want to cry. just the memory of being stuck in the house for what i feel like was weeks!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
Last winter was terrible, not to mention our utility bills were through the roof. Not looking forward to it
watermelon / 14206 posts
I'm in SC, so it won't be so bad, and I'm not pregnant this winter (I was past 2 winters!) and we also got a new furnace, so, I'm gonna try to just relax about it.

I'm nervous about my kid getting sick....she is in daycare this winter, her dad works in a hospital and I work in a jail....I feel like I'm just not going to go to work for three months. hopefully it isn't that bad.
also a little nervous about my home/daycare/work commute. but we'll manage. I'm only part time, so I don't have the option of PTO and that makes me nervous...winter can be unpredictable!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@sorrycharlie: it was awful. I am traumatized, still!
persimmon / 1364 posts
I'm in southern CA. Our winter was super warm last year. I didn't even get to wear boots. I'm due in January so kind of hoping for another warm one.
pomelo / 5678 posts
@Bao: I am still traumatized from last winter. I had winter stress hangover in the spring, I was already dreading the winter! I feel like I missed summer, it just went too fast. We are still paying off last winter's utilities!

I actually love it. We had such a cozy winter last year, snuggling and watching all the snow. And this year LO will be old enough to bundle up and play outside a bit. I know most people hate it - but not me.
pomegranate / 3983 posts
Yes! We just moved north and I am terrified. My kids have never seen snow let alone anywhere close to freezing temperatures.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
Just the thought of it makes me shudder. I'm still not ready for fall, never mind winter!

Baby #2 is due December 1, so I'm terrified of being stuck in the house for months and months with a toddler and a newborn. The newborn phase is not my favorite. It's going to be a loooong winter
watermelon / 14467 posts
It was brutal last winter, I'm a little scared. The good thing is that LO won't be brand new, so I won't be as scared to get her out.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Nope! Last winter was pretty brutal, but I actually loved all of the snow
pineapple / 12566 posts
I am! Last winter was atypically mild here, and it was the coolest summer in something like 14 years, so I'm nervous about what is in store for winter!
papaya / 10560 posts
I won't worry about what hasn't happened yet, we do get quite a bit of snow and ice in the part of texas I live in. I worry the most about DH trying to get to work...my car can handle it!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Yes!!! Only because I am pretty sure my new job doesn't allow us to work from home
pomegranate / 3872 posts
@Greentea: hmm a fireplace and a cup of tea and a snow shoveling service/pay neighborhood kids to shovel
pomelo / 5000 posts
Only time I get nervous is when people point out how it could be really tricky getting to the hospital when I'm in labor if we have a lot of snow!
honeydew / 7235 posts
@sorrycharlie: omg the mention of "polar vortex" just freaked me out. I blocked that from my memory. I also keep hearing about the farmers almanac, ugh. I don't think it will be that bad. I'm being optimistic!
My LO hated the snow last year. Hoping he will like it more now that he's bigger.
pomegranate / 3729 posts
I am really not looking forward to snow days and paying for daycare when she is not there.
But, maybe I will actually let P go out and play in the snow this year, so that part will be fun!!
apricot / 390 posts
I don't put much stock into the farmer's almanac predictions, but I'm still terrified that this winter could be even remotely close to last year!! I'm due in February and just might need to barricade myself in my house for the last few weeks of pregnancy! Last winter driving was terrifying.
persimmon / 1177 posts
Yes! Just got a new 4WD vehicle in anticipation (my little car was not going to make it through another midwest winter like we had last year )
And with a January due date, I am very thankful that we live about 5-10 minutes from the hospital and doctor's offices.

Not worried. I guess I'm lucky to live in an area where the roads are plowed immediately. I'm from the south originally and everyone warned me winter would be so hard in the north east, but so far all the roads are totally cleared where I live and commute, so I don't see the big deal. We don't have AWD or 4WD either.
I know LO will be sick, but I feel like there's nothing I can really do about that. but yeah, that part sucks.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
Yes. Absolutely terrified, mostly because of the same reason as you. Haha. (YAY January mamas!) I live in Virginia, and if we have anything more than a dusting of snow, people go nuts and the roads are horrible because we don't get snow often and therefore don't have the tools to take care of it when we do. I just need one good day..."labor" day!!
grapefruit / 4066 posts
Yes!!! Being cooped inside, shoveling tons and tons of snow, the heating bills....ughhh....SO not looking forward to winter.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Last winter wasn't too terrible for our area, so I'm hoping for the best! I'm more nervous about having a new baby than all the snow.

I loooove winter and snow...!!! I am always in the minority, but I cannot wait for winter!!
The day I had Wagon Jr. was the coldest of the year.. we didn't know since we were in the hospital for several days straight, but everyone visiting came in totally frozen and said it was crazy cold outside!! I did not mind because even though we couldn't go anywhere, we wouldn't have wanted to anyway because of the cold and snow. The winter olympics were going on, my parents were here, and my mom had 3 kinds of soup going on the stove at all times. We were happy
pomegranate / 3643 posts
We technically weren't part of the polar vortex, but we had a pretty cold winter. There were two separate weeks where the high was around zero for the week. And the low was -27 or so. (Fahrenheit). We've already had snow this year.
I don't really remember how much snowfall we got, because we tend to have snow on the ground from December to March, but I do remember one big storm that dumped a ton. I shoveled two feet of snow off our deck when I was five months pregnant!
It snowed here yesterday. Ugh.
pineapple / 12793 posts
I'm not too worried. The city is amazing at moving show so when with a December/January baby I'm not worried about delivering in a snow bank. It'll suck having a really cold winter with a newborn at home and an antsy toddler wanting to go out, but we'll survive. That's why #1 is getting a play kitchen for Christmas.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Not nervous exactly, just not looking forward to it! I just feel bad that DH will have to work very hard to shovel/snowblow. I will be on maternity leave anyway but will prob get cabin fever!
papaya / 10473 posts
Yes. I don't enjoy winter. We don't generally get snow here due to being in the south... Instead we get freezing rain, sleet, and ice storms. Hopefully this year is milder than we're expecting!
persimmon / 1165 posts
I'm anxious for December to get here so hurricane season is over! I'm kind of opposite though, since I live in FL. The cooler/cold weather will be a bit welcome after this humid, hot summer, which really doesn't end until mid/late October.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
Yes, definitely. I felt so cooped up last winter and it was really rough with a busy toddler. When TTC I avoided a winter due date because I just CAN'T with the cabin fever. LO is due in April, thank God.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Yes, the same one is floating around my area on FB and I hate driving in snow so it scares me! Also, the thought of falling on the ice when pregnant makes me so nervous.
