@deerylou: I went to Waldorf kindergarten through 8th grade!
Our kids will go to private. We did not buy in an area with good public schools, unfortunately, although we are thinking about moving for this reason. I would love my kids to go to Waldorf school at least through third grade, but I don't know if we can afford it!

Public. Good schools is at the top of the list for when we buy our next home

Public, all the way (unless they get a scholarship, all expenses paid, for a private university).

I voted undecided but it'll (eta- probably) be private if we can afford it. Especially since NCLB even the best public school teachers are bound by a failing system, IMO. I'd prefer something more progressive but even in the private schools this can be hard to find, so we'll see. Ultimately it will depend on what the best fit is for dd.

Public. It's close to the house and is pretty much my ideal school.

We are starting out public, and I hope that we continue that way. We are so.so.so close to the local school that I would love to say that we will stay there. We intend though, to transition to the French immersion feeder school that is farther away.
If we encounter any learning issues that might benefit from a particular private school, we would not be opposed to investigating that option.
We would love to send our kids away for their last year of school to either Class Afloat or a Canadian-run Junior College in Switzerland, though!

DH and I met in public school and we will look to buy a home in an area with good schools to send our LO to public school as well!

We will try homeschooling and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out we will send them to public school.

Undecided- we were both the products of public education and did fine (I definitely would have been better off challenged a little more though). But our school system is horrible here. If we stay in the area, we are really going to have to look into this further.
I don't expect the schools to be the only ones teaching, I expect to have much involvement at home too, but a poor quality school system makes me nervous.

I can't vote because we'll probably do a mix. Right now we're in private, but we are strongly considering public for grade school up until 6th and then back to private.

I live in an area with amazing public schools so I'm hoping to be able to send them to public schools because I hate paying for things that I can get for free. (umm... as if we weren't already taxed like a mother to support our public school system.) But it depends on what legislation is in effect in my state at the time I send my future LOs to school. Also, if my future kids have amazing athletic talents, then I will send them to whatever high school in the county gives them the best chances for an athletic scholarship - public or private.

Undecided. We live in an area with one of the worst school districts in the country. If we move, we'll do public. If we don't, private.

@Mrs. Pen: Not sure about the laws in your state but here in California a charter school is technically a public school (e.g. free tuition, cannot discriminate, etc), although it is not bound by all of the laws a traditional public school is (but charters are required to participate in standardized testing). Our charter schools around here tend to vary just as much as public schools in quality.

Probably private. The school district we live in is terrible. I work for said school district so I know first-hand what a shoddy education the kids get. I believe in the democracy of public education, but with a test-focused school culture, students here aren't being prepared to be independent, creative and critical learners. Sometimes I feel guilty that our LO will probably go to private school, but I give my all to public schools every day and that's how I am contributing to public education.

We'd really like them to go Montessori for preschool but after that they'll most likely be in public.

Public! I went to private schools from pre-k through college and I did not have great experiences. I felt I had less options than the people who went to public schools. I know that's obviously not the case everywhere, but we plan to buy in a good district so we can do public.

Public. We purposely bought a house in a good school district since we both believe in public education.

Undecided. There is a really great private school in our neighbourhood that many of our friends' kids go to -- the academic and arts/sports is excellent there, so it is certainly something we are considering! I have nothing against public school though and went through it myself. However, I've also had a lot of experience teaching children and feel very comfortable with the elementary school curriculum so am open to homeschooling too! we still have a few years to decide:)

Public worked well for us, and we plan on sending our kids to public schools as well. I would like them to get into the local Charter school, but chances might be slim due to the high demand.

Most likely Public- but if our smart cookie somehow gets into a private school on scholarship, I'd send her. Especially in middle or high school because the enrichment opportunities and college preparation seem awesome in certain private schools. That said, I think any school is a lot about what you put into it and how you impart the value on education at home also. So I think it's quite possible to thrive, excel and surprise the masses in public school.

I have really strong opinions about education that make me crazy, but I won't get into that.
I will say we will send our future kids to public school and hope he/she will be a part of the dual language program.
Most of our friends scoff at us wanting this.

@NorCalWayfarer: oh yes I am aware that the charter schools are public. The ones in my area right now are very good.

Public! I would have bee undecided a few months ago but we finally found a home (!!!) and it's in a decent school district.

The only private schools in our area are catholic, which I am not. Lol. Our public schools are good around here though.

@TemperanceBrennan: the elementary school in my neighborhood has a Spanish immersion program that I'd like to put my kids in.
