I totally am!
I know they don't choke and it's really a gag reflex. But I'm too afraid I won't know the difference.

Not too chicken - just not educated enough about it to give it a go!

I started her on purees before I had even heard about BLW, and like @winniebee, I don't feel like I know enough about it to confidently try it. Maybe for baby # 2?

I'm too chicken. But now that I'm on my second one, I'll probably do a bit in combination with purees.

I was definitely worried about choking, but now I'm starting to relax a bit and incorporating some BLW with purees.

Kind of... at our old place our dining room was carpet so there was no way I was going to try it!! We moved and now our dining room is laminate. He is 7.5 months now and getting better at grabbing food and bringing it to his mouth. Now, after 2+ months of purees, I was ready for him to start feeding himself so we did a very gradual approach where I slowly started adding texture.
He definitely gags a lot more and there have been many times I'm freaked out enough that I grab him out of his high chair but he's always fine and in two seconds is shoving more in his mouth haha!
DH hates it... so we don't do BLW with him.
I'm glad I waited a little to do it though. And there are still many foods we puree completely. Like - every morning he has his "green smoothie" with me - so he gets pureed bananas and spinach. Other foods that are too hard to eat whole we puree as well. I will let him gnaw on carrots, but if I want him to EAT the carrot I usually mostly puree it.

@boiledpnut: baby led weaning, Mrs.Bee had an interesting blog post about it.

I'm a big fan of BLW, but my baby wanted solids way before she could pick them up. You can start with purees and just move to solids when you feel ready, and still do a lot of BLW. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.
My girl truly choked just once, and she cleared it on her own. It was scary for sure, but I got over it. Now she's a fantastic eater.

I'm not even due for four more months but I'm already leaning toward this. I love the concept and the ease of it. I don't know how it will work for daycare, though. They require you to bring baby food in original containers, so I don't even know how homemade purees would work (because there's no way I'm buying jarred baby food, sorry).

@ladyfingers: that's totally a question to ask daycare! Plus, if you start BLW at 6 months, I think you can just do it for one meal at a time for a while. That would give you some time to get your lo used to solids and then, when he/she is ready to start eating at more meals, send stuff you know he/she can eat well to daycare.

We do a little bit of both. She eats purees but we give her real solid food too. She doesn't honestly eat much but she chews on it and gums it.

My LO gagged on chunky purees. No way would I do BLW!

I'm a bit chicken, so i still stick to purees. But, we do give her big pieces of food to gnaw and suck on and she seems to enjoy it. We just have to keep an eye on her though. She gagged on asparagus yesterday...almost shoved the whole thing down her throat!
