DH and I have only stayed in a B&B once, but it confirmed that we are definitely hotel people. The room was awful, the bed was like sleeping on cardboard, a porch light that we couldn't turn on or off shone right in our eyes all night, and the owner accused us of smoking pot. The staff was nice, but the owner was horrible. Are you a hotel gal like me? Or do you like a quaint B&B?

We're not hotel people. I much prefer to rent a apt/house through VRBO bc it's cheaper. Next would be cabin or B&B depending on type of vacation.

We stayed at a b&b for our honeymoon! In our area they are usually nicer and cheaper than hotels! I really like them.

I've only stayed in a B&B once, and it was super nice. BUT I purposely looked for a more "modern" B&B, and of course...read all the reviews.
Like, all the places with scary antique beds and laura ashley comforters with a rocking chair in the corner and creaky wooden floors is a no-go with me.
The place we stayed in was pricey, but it had a huge bathroom with a whirlpool jet tub for two people, a sitting area with a couch, library, flat screen tv, and huge, modern king size bed. Plus the breakfast in the mornings was pretty awesome, and every evening, there was a "happy hour station" with snacks and wine in chilled bottles from 5-7 pm.
So I'd say....It depends on the B&B. If we are going to a place where they are all the flowery-quilt variety, I'd much rather be in a hotel.

I usually prefer them to hotels as long as it's an area that has a lot of B&B's to choose from which generally makes them nicer since they have more competition. From experience though I like to make sure that it's not someone's house where they're just renting out a bedroom and the only 'staff' is the owner. I feel in those situations like I don't have any privacy and I'm intruding on their personal space.

I prefer hotels. Every B&B I've researched, the breakfast/meals are served "community" style, and sharing tables with strangers creeps me out!! Maybe I've just had bad luck with B&Bs I've researched, but my friend who loves B&Bs says the same thing.

I've stayed in some very nice B&Bs, but I prefer (nice!) hotels. I like to have a more anonymous nature when I'm traveling, and staying at a B&B I always feel a little like I'm staying with family. I also dislike eating breakfast at a certain time with the other guests; the whole point of vacation is getting to do what *I* want, including eating what I want when I want.

B&Bs weird me out... I feel like I'm staying with a relative I barely know! We go VRBO, then hotel. We stay at a B&B in New Orleans sometimes because we know the people, so its not weird.

I like B&Bs but overall I orefer nice hotels. I'm a big Starwood fan and prefer to just stay in one of those. Plus I like to use points and B&Bs don't afford me that option.

@Weagle: Was it in VA? I really would love to go to the Inn at Little Washington sometime. My parents went for their anniversary and LOVED it.

We prefer them as long as we've researched them pretty well. We've only stayed in a few but we've always had a good experience and we love having a nice breakfast.

I am much more of an anonymous boutique hotel person. With B & B's, they sound good, but you have to really research them like @mrbee said. Otherwise you could get a really creepy, tacky one with grandma's decor everywhere.
