My 7 year old has gotten into crafting the last month or so and I'm trying to figure out how to corral all the projects she's making. Primarily these tend to be crafty construction projects - ie, she made a cat play yard out of popsicle sticks, paper, pom pomps, etc, about 2 feet on each side. It sat on the floor when she played with it for a day or two and then got forgotten. Most things tend to be 3D, not just paper drawings and stuff like that. Of course she refuses to disassemble and throw anything away so I've been putting things into a large box I got at Michaels but that's filling up quick. We don't have much storage space so I'm running out of ideas. Any tips or suggestions for recycling?

I have an extremely arty/crafty 6yo. When projects are made they stay out for a few days after which I move them out of sight. After some days of her not asking for them I toss them. We would be overrun with art and she generally doesn’t want them after making them. Of course there a some she asks to keep and we do. That we use to keep supplies and completed projects. I also go through that periodically to toss things because once completed things go in there they are usually ignored -
Would it help if she gets pictures of stuff she made? We take pictures (from all sides and angles, at my daughter’s insistence!
) of 3D crafty things and then periodically make photo books for her to look back at her “creations.”
I usually move the art projects out of sight a few days after she makes them and then get rid of them a little while later...I struggle with how much to openly acknowledge that we throw away - she’d flip out if she really slowed down to think about it, but we seem to have reached a good understanding that while we can’t keep every project, the photo books help her remember them.

My 5yo is drowning in art. We do a lot of talking about how the things we have need to fit in the containers we have for them, and if they don't we need fewer things, not more containers. So when her art box is full I ask her to sort it into keep and recycle. We've worked hard on it because it's a priority for me. If she has a plan or a place for it, great. If not, off it goes. It was hard at first but she can do it pretty independently now.
