We're going to rent a cabin outside of Asheville later in the spring with DH's family. There will be 3 kids ages 4,2, & 1.5. Any tips on kid friendly places to go? We've all seen the Biltmore and don't want to do that with kids again. We'll probably roam the grounds though. Any ideas are appreciated!

Well, I just moved here, officially, in November. So I'm not a pro yet! But I do know that Biltmore got a new playground and they have a petting zoo, both that are supposed to be great for kids. I'm actually considering an annual pass for access to these.
Mountain Play Lodge is a fun indoor play spot. I've heard good things about Fun Depot, too.
Okay, I just scanned the archives of the Asheville Mamas FB page, and found some things! Splasheville, Art Museum (there's an interactive area on the 3rd floor), Botanical Gardens, Nature Center.

Oh, there's also a children's museum in Hendersonville? It's about half an hour east of downtown Asheville. Not sure what side of town you guys are staying on, but might be worth checking out! We haven't gone yet.

Judging from the name, I'd guess it's not the best source for kid-centric activities. But there are supposedly festivals every weekend from spring to fall, so maybe you can catch a couple.
