Mine went away when I was about 7. One of my sisters had hers until she was almost 12! We were surprised because only my dad is Asian. My cousins kids didn't have any and she is Asian and her husband isn't.

What on earth is a Mongolian mark? Does it only happen to asians? I have never even heard of this!

@anonysquire: i've heard that black babies can have it too, but most east asians have it?
mine didn't go away until i was 6 or so.
charlie and olive have it so faint that you can barely tell, but they are 1/4 white. charlie's looks like little bruises, and olive's is really, really faint.

OMG, LO's are still blue blue blue!~ People ALWAYS ask what it is!

Oh ok, so are they just birth marks? I want to start calling my birth mark a Mongolian mark. It just sounds more fancy lol.

LO has one on her back, her Dr said it should fade by the time she is 2 or 3!

@anonysquire: it's larger than a birth mark. If someone doesn't know what it is, it can look like someone had really bad bruises. My mom would get asked about ours at daycare all the time. They just didn't see them.

Oh wow! That is crazy I have never even heard of them! I don't think I have ever seen an asian baby in real life though. Thank you for educating me everyone

@anonysquire: when I was born, my mom said to my aunts that she didn't know Asian babies had this. My aunts looked at her and said that they didn't know that some babies don't have them.

My sister had them until past kindergarten! I remember her kindergarten teacher called my parents because they thought the spots were bruises... So my parents had to bring over reports from the pediatrician stating they were Mongolian spots and not bruises!

@Jennimac: my LO has them on his back, butt, and around both ankles... Friends have asked what they are but it could easily pass for bruises to a stranger...

Wow, never even heard of this! My baby will be half Taiwanese, will he possibly have one???

My daughter is almost 1 and still has them. My son, who's turning 3 soon doesn't have them anymore. Maybe he never had them or has faded a long time ago, I don't remember.

@mrskc: maybe- I'm half Chinese and had them pretty strongly. So did my sisters. My cousins kids, who are half Chinese also, have nothing.

LO is part Japanese, but I've never heard of these! She doesn't have them.

I was shocked that M didn't have one, since she's black and Asian.

I'm Asian and I've never heard of this before. I'll inspect my nephew and see if he has them.

Haha my BIL (in his 40s) says he still has his! Maybe because his is permanent it's not considered a Mongolian spot and is a true birthmark instead?
My DD is 4 and hers is pretty much faded by now. I'd like to say it was pretty much gone around 3 yo. My almost 1 year old still has hers.

LO is half white / half Vietnamese and has a small one on her booty. I don't expect it to disappear for several years. All of my cousins kids had it and it didn't fade until they were 7+ years old.

Um, I still have mine! My family jokes that it means I am a baby forever. When I get a massage they always ask me if I have a bruise. It's definitely a Mongolian spot, not a birth mark because it's really blue/green.

Hm I never knew about this! LO's a halfer and she does not have one. Neither do my nieces and nephews.

I didn't have one growing up! So I actually had to Google it... I just gave hubs the heads up about it since our baby will be half Viet/half white. Wonder if he/she will have one...

My son has one right above his bootie but it's still there (at 2 years). It's always hidden under clothes so I haven't been asked whether or not it's a bruise.
