Answer the poll! I vote 3 because many of the preschools we are looking at require kids to be 3 by Sept 1. Otherwise, they are in the toddler class - or they may not even have a toddler class and just start at age 3.

I also think "3" but E starts the 3's room in Jan at 32 months, so I've been calling it preschool even though she'll be a little young

Somewhere between two and three, I reckon. My big girl is three next week but she lost her "toddler-ness" at around 2.5

I'm going with 3. The curriculum and expectations changed a lot from his 2 year old room to his 3 year room. In our daycare center's literature, they say that they're preparing for kindergarten and the social experience of it. Now, if we can find the same experience for him in our new neighborhood, that would be awesome.

I voted 4. I feel like this site skews toward more mature kids, but I feel like the general population of kids isn't as mature and independent at 3 as they are at 4.

@daniellemybelle: At the daycare I worked at toddlers transitioned into the pre-school room in between 2.5 and 3.

When they start preschool? Lol. I don't think of preschooler as an age descriptor like toddler. In my area kids qualify for preschool at 2.5 years old, but I know it's different everywhere. I wouldn't call my kid a preschooler until he's in preschool. 1-4 = toddler. Younger toddler, older toddler, preschooler toddler, etc.

@MoonMoon: Really? I feel like at least when it comes to online resources it's a category between toddler and school aged.
My LO won't start kindergarten until 5 years 10 months. She definitely won't be a toddler at 5!
I think LO will still be a toddler to me until at least 3!

@daniellemybelle: oh yeah a 5 year old is not a toddler! In my mind, it's between 1 and 4 years old. This is an interesting conversation, though!
