At what age would you consider leaving your kids unsupervised after school?

Never? About the time they're old enough to be home and not set the ace on fire is when they'll start skipping school to have afternoon delight on the couch! Not on MY watch!

11? That's about how old I was. But it was only for a little while and definitely not everyday.

6th grade. Because I plan to homeschool middle school and work a couple hours a day teaching and leaving him home alone for those.

I was a latchkey kid from 1st or 2nd grade! My brother was 2 years older than me.
I hope to work "mothers hours" so I can always pick my kids up if they need it. I have a lot of traumatic memories from middle and high school of missing the bus in the afternoon and having to ask people for a ride home, or just walking the 3.5 miles along a highway!

I became a latchkey kid in fifth grade, so that is a comfortable age for me (10). In my state kids are not allowed to be home alone under age eight. Probably that is never enforced unless in cases of neglect/abuse, but it seems like a good guideline.

I feel like 12 is a good number but of course it depends on the maturity of the kid, some would be fine at 11 and others can't be trusted at 15.

I think I was in middle school. DS is pretty responsible, so that's probably when I'll let him, too. Not that he'll need to. I plan to SAHM until LO is in kindergarten, at least, so I'll be here when he comes home for years to come.

I was alone after school starting in 6th grade. I was 10-11 that year. But I was always super responsible. I'll see how responsible my kid is but for short time periods, that seems about right to me.

Middle school is when my friends parents started leaving them alone after school. It was only for a few hours though since we got home around 3:30 and their parents would be home at 6. That was the best time of the day for me, I would go to my friends houses and we would stuff our faces with raamen and hot pockets and watch tv. My Mom always stayed home and never left the house so I was always desperate for time away from her!

10 or 11? It also would depend on how long they would need to be alone, but I think by the time the bus drops off at our house it's around 4:00 and I get home around 5:30 so I think an hour and a half is doable at that age.

@babyjmama: hahahahha
I was 8 when I was home after school...but that seems too young to me for my own kids. Probably 12.

I started staying home when I was nine (my sister was seven). We spent all day home alone during the summers when I was 11. My parents packed us a lunch just like we were in school and we knew not to use the oven or microwave.
ETA: it depends on her maturity level, but probably in middle school.

@babyjmama: LOL my thoughts exactly.
I don't know though...maybe middle school? I unfortunately don't think I'll be able to swing getting home when she's off school, but I want her in after-school care until at least middle school...
Hopefully she's nothing like me and wouldn't take advantage of being left alone!!

Definitely depends on the maturity of the kid but probably 12ish.
