I've just learned to knit and purl without driving myself nuts
Any great sites with good instructions on a project for a newbie? I found one for an infinity scarf, looking at other stuff that might be simple to do.
Thanks!

@cascademom: @avivoca: Exactly the two I would have suggested!
@babycanuck: For other techniques, etc--I Google Youtube videos of stuff ALL.THE.TIME. The Knit Witch is a great Youtube resource for figuring out a new stitch. Have fun!

i agree with @avivoca purlbee.com is my go-to. I love their projects. I also use jimmybeanswool.com for my yarn and needles. they have a rewards program that is great and usually have free shipping. I also use knittinghelp.com for some basics and good videos on techniques

@mrsbrewer I stumbled onto purlbee.com and self taught myself. I've mostly just done baby blankets at this point (about a year and a half of knitting), but I've also done a couple of washcloths and infinity scarves. My new project is knitted hedgehogs. http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2013/2/9/whits-knits-knit-hedgehogs.html

@MrsBrewer: I literally watched it this morning a few times (I struggled...) and after the 3rd try I was knitting!

@MrsBrewer: The original Stitch and Bitch book is a great learning resource.

@MrsBrewer: Just as a heads up there are 2 main kinds of knitting English and Continental each with a different grip. The videos above show English style. I would recommend for someone just starting out to look at both and find the best grip for you!

The website http://www.knitty.com also has some great tutorials and free patterns arranged by difficulty. As you get more confident, TechKnitter has a fabulous blog, but a lot of her topics are a bit more advanced. But ravelry is always my go-to site for project ideas and crowdsourcing info (I just find the forums a little overwhelming sometimes because there's SO MUCH activity).

This is a great pattern if you want to continue working on your knitting and purling. It alternates between the two and is fairly simple. It is a longer project than a scarf but just as easy.
