My LO hates his arms being swaddled but his arms startle him awake when he sleeps ! He waves them around like crazy. It's so frustrating ! Any suggestions ? Right now we swaddle him from his armpits down in a swaddleme blanket

@coacheswife123: I wish I had a suggestion, I just wanted to offer some love since we went through the same thing with J! It was so frustrating, he'd go in spurts of sleeping better swaddled, then arms free, then swaddled...back and forth

When I took my baby care class, they suggested that we either leave one arm out of the swaddle, or swaddle the baby so the hands are by the face, so that they can still suck on them if they need to. Would those work for you?

I've read the more a baby fights a swaddle the more they need it! But i have no clue if thats valid or not. Maybe try a woombie? They're less constricting.

i think the key for us is going to be putting him in it when he is VERY sleepy. last night we did and it worked great and he slept SO good! @scg00387: i think you are right, he truly does need the swaddle!

@coacheswife123: our little guy was (is) crazy with his arms so I can commiserate! We swaddled until 2 months when he rolled I miss it!! I remember one night DH came home to me sobbing at like 2 weeks pp bc I couldn't calm his arms down enough to use the miracle blanket haha. Glad he slept well!

@coacheswife123: our little man has the same problem: he likes to have his hands free, but is then startled by waking himself up! He seems to be slowly working out that the annoying thing which keeps waking him up ... is himself.

DS will only tolerate a full swaddle when he's already conked out. 9 times out of 10, by the time he wakes up, he's worked his arms out. If he wakes up and his arms are still pinned, he becomes VERY angry.

My daughter would get angry when she wanred to move her arms and couldn't, and she would wake herself up struggling...So we just swaddle under the arms or use A&A sleepsacks...Not very helpful, I know...But I don't know if there's really a way to fix it! Maybe your LO will just get used to it?
The problem we have now is that H is a wild sleeper and gets her loose arms in between the crib slats and wakes herself up:(. I have to get a breathable bumper today...It drives me nuts to look on the monitor and see her hands hanging out of the crib because she's twisted and slid all over the place!

I'm on my iPod so I can't link but try googling the Love To Dream swaddle. My LO hated having her arms swaddled but this was a great compromise! Here's a pic of her in it:

@Kemma: that is super interesting! I will have to keep that in mind for baby #2. How old is your LO and how long has she been using it?
We swaddled LO until 3-4 months...I can barely remember. I think we stopped swaddling bc she rolled over...also I was secretly afraid of making her a swaddle addict. She slept so good in the swaddle. Naps were the most frustrating bc she would end up waving her arms around forever and took forever to settle down to sleep (I would stare at the monitor begging her to stop waving her arms around)...I think it took several days (maybe a week) but she grew out of it. It's so frustrating.

@sandy: Miss A is four months and has been wearing a medium since she was about three weeks old.
