We are officially 1 month post transplant and life is great. He is laughing and smiling all the time. When he is dressed, no one would ever guess just how grueling last month was for him. He had a great Christmas at home with lots of presents and skyping sessions with family.
We saw our doctors yesterday and he's doing so well that they've decreased his doctor visits to every other week. They are still tweaking his meds a bit and his weight has been decreasing, but no signs of rejection or infection!!!
His sleep is finally getting back to normal - the hospital stay did a number on his sleep, plus all the meds weren't helping. He's starting to get into solids and he's eating 2 "meals" of pureed foods on normal days. He's starting to push to all fours and LOVES standing so much that I don't think it's long until he's pulling himself up.
I'm loving having a healthy baby again, with all the energy and excitement with every new day and milestone. I HATE giving him medicine because he screams and fights everytime, but I fight through for him (and I make my husband do it sometimes to give myself a break). I had been looking for jobs before he got sick but now I'm coming to terms with staying home a while longer. I do miss the intellectual stimulation and am open to part time work if I can find a good part time nanny and the right position for myself. Sometimes I find myself feeling sorry for myself, missing having a "normal" baby, and at the same time feel so lucky that everything went so well and that Little Badger is still here and doing SO well when there are so many other parents with very sick babies and babies that didn't make it and then I feel guilty for not being grateful every second. That dichotomy is something I still fail to wrap my mind around completely.
So to end on a happy note - pictures!
