I never considered carrying DS1 but with DS2 on the way, I'd like to give it a try. I know NOTHING about baby carriers. A friend has the ergo infant insert she said I can use so thats a plus. I have a bad back so I want something that won't be too hard on me and comfortable for baby.
I'd like not to spend more than $100-$125. Any recommendations?

If you bump that up to 150, Tula is a great choice. Other great ones are Lenny lamb, beco, onya, kinderpack, Ergo & lillebaby
Find your local baby wearing store and go try on some carriers to see what your best fit is.

Definitely try on and see what's comfortable for you.
Beco Gemini you can cross the straps in the back and face the baby forward.
See if there's a local baby wearing group in your area. They are really friendly and helpful at getting a good fit and usually have carriers they loan out for you to try for a month or so. Great way to see what you like.

I second Tula, it's worth the extra to get to $150. It was the most comfortable of any of the ones I tried and we use a Tula and a toddler Tula and love them.

@ladybee: Babhwearing International has chapters all over! The dues are $30 for the year and would be a great option to try things on and really decide what you like.

@ladybee: I second trying on before you buy. I bought a beco gemini after a ton of research and ended up hating the fit. I sold it and bought a tula and love it! It's all about finding something that's the right fit for you. Hopefully your local baby wearing group has a lending library so you can try some stuff out.

I love our Tula and so does DH. He wears it more than I do. We got a neutral gray color.

Try on if you can! But we LOVE our Tula- I wear my toddler and my newborn in the same carrier (at different times haha). But I've also tried a KTan, a Moby wrap and a mei tai, and really like the Moby for tiny babies.
I know tons of people are happy with the Ergo- it all depends on fit for you!

I got the Lillebaby complete for LO2 and have been really happy so far! (He is only 3 months though.). There are lots of different options and LO fit really early. It is how I do all my grocery shopping these days.

I have a Lillebaby airflow and really like it. They just released several new cute prints that will be for sale in December. And they released a whole new carrier (the Essentials) that's only $99.
The Completes are $129-$169 depending on the fabric and print.
The Completes can ergonomically do out and inward front carries, hip carries, and back carries---and NO infant insert is needed. It works from 7 lbs up.
The new Essentials only does inward front carry and back carry.

The Lillebaby has amazing lumbar support! I prefer it a million times over my ergo

My friend who is big into baby carrying and goes to baby wearing meet ups still swears by the Ergo. I used the Moby in winter until baby turned about 3 months then switched to the Ergo for my back and shoulders. That lasted longest for me until baby turned 2+ years old and I stopped carrying. I have heard great things about Tula too!

I'm petite and I really like the Beco soliel. I got the ergo for DH since I heard it better for a bigger build. He really likes the Ergo.
I have also tried the Ktan and the Moby. You can get these used for $20 at a consignment sale.
I do want to try the Tula but I think I'll borrow it first before I buy. Plus, I have to get that infant insert or wait until they are 15 lbs to use it without the insert.
