We have a Munchkin white metal gate that has an extension piece. So far I love it. It's big enough for my wide stairway opening, it is easy to open and just pushes/pulls shut, and it has both screw-in and tension mounts, so I feel really confident that it won't get loose. I also like that it has "locks" on the bottom of the gate so you can make it only open one way or you can "lock" both to provide an extra safeguard.
We live in a rowhouse and have an open stairway going down right in the middle of DD's play area - so having a good gate is *really* important.

@septca: thanks! do you have to screw-in the gate or could you just use the tension mount? i'd like to avoid having to screw-in a gate but it's not a dealbreaker

@butterbean: @septca: I also have a white munchkin gate. It was the widest one I could fine and we love it! You definitely want to screw one in!

@butterbean: You *can* just use the tension, but I wasn't comfortable with that given the place we need a gate. If I was using a gate on a bedroom door to be more of a barrier, for example, I would be okay with just using the tension. But at the top of a staircase I want both.
Keep in mind, too, that some babies (mine!) love to pull themselves up on the gate and pull on it. I like knowing our gate isn't going anywhere.
