Did anyone's baby start off in low height percentiles and then later grow a bunch and get longer/taller? Or did anyone's baby have low height percentile but end up being a taller toddler?
My baby started in the 25% for height and then at her 6 month check up she was in the 20%. I'd like her to be a tall girl! I'm just amazed at how short she is. Her 9 month appointment is coming up soon so I hope she's grown!

Are you or your husband very tall?
My son was in the 25th percentile until about 6 months. Then he was off the charts by age 1. Now at age 6, he's somewhere around the 85th percentile. I'm not that surprised because my DH and his family are all very tall, whereas I'm average. That said, my daughter has always been around the 50th percentile (and she's 3).

Mine! She was 25th for height until about 9 months and all of a sudden is 75th-85th from about 18 months until now (2). Neither of us are tall.

@lamariniere: I'm 5'6" and my husband is 6'2" i think. We have lots of taller people on both our sides, but he has one rogue aunt that is barely 5' if not under. That's great to know your baby's height jumped by age 1.

@agold: there's definitely hope! I seems like most kids end up taller than their parents (of the same sex), so it seems likely that your DD will at least be taller than you, which would definitely make her taller than average! I'm pretty sure I'm going to wind up being the shortest one in my family by the time the kids are done growing.

I'd take height measurements on infants with a grain of salt - it's impossible to get a truly accurate measurement of them.
My son's height has been all over the place. According to my records, he was 21" when he was born, then 19.5" the following week. His 6 month appointment had him in the 6th percentile, then he magically jumped up to 54th at his 9 month appointment.

Mine! She was about 30% at birth, then stayed there until 9 months, and started gaining percentages. At her 18 month appointment she was at 85% and now at 21 months has grown another several inches. I'm 5'6 and DH is 5'11, but both grandmas were 5'3.

My first son wasn't even on the charts when he was born (17.5 inches!). He's now around 30% at age 5 (but that was a year ago)
My second son was around 10% when born, I think. He was 19 inches. He's also around 30% now at age 2.5.
I'm 5'2 and my husband is 5'6...

DD1 was at very low percentiles (like 3% weight 10^ height) for the first 12-18 months, then slowly crept up the curve height (though not weight). While still not super tall, she's at more like 40% for height these days at almost 5 yrs.
DD2 grew even quicker than that and I want to say she might even be between 60-60% height. Everyone "thinks" she is tall at 3.

My youngest had some placental issues late in pregnancy and actually shrunk from 34-38 weeks when he was born, so he was a fairly small baby (for my family at least).
At his 9 month appointment he measured at 2nd percentile in height - 26.5 inches. He had finally gotten up to 15th percentile for weight (which is amazing compared to his previous <1 percentile at 2 months).
His weight has been creeping up slowly since 2 months- a couple percentile a visit, but his height isn't moving on the charts. I would have hoped by 9 months it would catch up. Our oldest son is firmly in the 65th percentile for height and weight.

Mine did. My first was born at 41 weeks at 18.5" which I think is around 10%. She grew 3" the first month and 2" the second month and then kept going. So she's been relatively stable 75%-90% since 6mo old. More recently (since 1.5-3 y.o.) she has been consistently 90%+. She is around 40" I think at 3 years. No idea why she was born so short!
I am 6' and my husband is 6' (he is the shortest) and for the most part each of our dad's side is very tall. My dad is 6'4 and his brother is 6'8. My mom isn't short at 5'7. My husband is the shortest of his 3 brothers and his aunt is about my height. So I'd be a little weirded out to have short children lol.
My second is only 5mo. But he was born 19.75" which is more like 50% but he went up to around 75% which is where he has been at 1mo, 2mo, and 4mo checkups.
Their weights were about 50% at birth but my 3 year old has been pretty consistently 75% for weight. My 5mo old has been thinner. He dropped down to 36% and then 14% and now back to around 20% at 5mo.
The only downside is that people think she is much older than she is so they think I have a crying, kicking, trantruming 4-5 year old

@superkate: Yeah, I've found it is really easy to be off with those since even half an inch off (because squirmy baby) can be a big difference. At our 2mo appointment with my second she measured him and it looked as if he had gone from 75% to 20% and I just thought that there was no way this was possible (he was like going to go into 6mo sleepers at this point) so I asked her to remeasure and sure enough she hadn't gotten a good measurement. I also think my daughter's 2 year one's were a bit off (they had her off the charts tall at 38") and I don't think she was quite that tall based on clothing.

My DD was born at the 50th percentile, but then went down most of her first year. She popped back up by around 18 months and has been steadily at around 50% since then.
My mom has told me more than once that I was their short kid. My sister was their tall kid (tallest in the class). Now as adults we're the same height.

Stats are not super accurate until kids can stand for height IMO. We had 2 appointments in one week- one at her pediatrician and one at Shriners and their measurements for height had a discrepancy of 2" which is significant. That said I realize I have no control over my kid's physical stats, no amount of hoping can make her something she's not- in my case that's a physically disabled 2 year old that is a perfect little human being.

@lamariniere: in our family it seems you be going in the opposite direction. DH's granddad was 6'5", his dad is 6'2" and DH is 6' even. DH's mom is 6' and his sister is only 5'6". Ha! And my mom is 6 inches shorter than her mom.

Is your pediatrician concerned? If not, I wouldn't be. I don't think stats are important, just as long as she is staying pretty consistent.

I was simply told, "Your LO will definitely not be tall." - she's very short for her age, but still grows consistently (and I'm actually amazing at her rapid growth at times). Her doctor is not concerned at all. She's been in the 20th percentile since she was a few months old ... but I guess anything could happen during puberty, right? I'm just happy to have a healthy kiddo.

DS2 will not be tall. He's 10th percentile, but I'm only 5'1", and DH is 5'9". DS1 is about 44th percentile which is where he'll likely stay. DS2 is just little all around. His head is right on, but his height and weight are staying on the low end of the curve.
