Does anyone worry about their favorite baby names being used by friends/co-workers/family? I'm starting to freak out because two of our favorite boys names are being used by co-workers. It sucks because we've had these picked out since we started trying but obviously haven't had a baby yet. I know there are no dibs on names but it just makes me sad because I feel like we can't use these names anymore.

We're 9 months pregnant now, and team green. My partner's cousin just had twins & named their baby something REALLY close to our boy name ... I was really sad. But, at the end of the day, we decided that we'd still go with it. We already connected with the name, and that's what mattered to us.

I use to worry about this a lot. I've decided to not to worry anymore and use the names we love.

Why do you feel like you can't use the name? Names can be used more than once..
Our daughter shares the same name with my brothers best friends dog. It doesn't bother me at all!

I didn't really worry about it because unless it was like, a sibling of one of ours, I would totally still use a name. Coworkers will come and go and often don't travel in your social circle so that was no big deal.
That said, I was perfectly happy when people named their children names I disliked in the three years it took us to actually have our team green baby.

I don't really worry about it... We've picked some pretty obscure names that I don't think they are the style of my relatives who are having kids... But I would be very upset if one of them somehow chose my boy name...
I agree with PPs, I don't think coworkers count.

@Crystal: @LindsayInNY:.@Vegmama: I know I shouldn't care but there is part of me that does, I think it's because I have a super common name and the names we like/picked aren't common because I hated being 1 of 5.
@Mrs. Jump Rope: I know names can be used more than once I just had this idea in my head that my kid wouldn't know anyone close with the same name. But I guess co workers aren't close necessarily.
@Sapphiresun: I know I probably won't be around my coworkers forever but I probably will be until I get pregnant. I shouldn't worry about it but I do.

I've thought about it, but our boy name is going to be after DH SO NO WORRYING THERE, BUT OUR GIRL NAME SEEMS TO BE COMING UP MORE AND MORE, BUT WHEN THE DAY COMES AND WE ARE BLESSED WITH A CHILD IT WILL BE OUR KIDDOS AND THE NAME WILL COME!

Don't feel like you can't use it still! I can relate though, we have a few names we like for our DD and it seems like they are coming up everywhere!

Co-workers come and go, they would be the least of my concerns of using the same names. Every child is different and unique, same/similar names or not.

The only names that are off limits to me are the names of my nieces and nephews. All other names are fair play.

our friends just had a boy and took our 1 boy name
and now that we're finally pregnant it really bothered me to find out.. on the search for new and better name i guess
