Do people still do this? My MIL has mentioned wanting to do this several times now, but I don't think I've known anyone remotely in my generation to do it.

I can't imagine doing it with her first shoes. Like, bronzed robeez? Not quite the same thing as the stiff leather shoes we all wore first. I don't know anyone who has done it either.

No to bronzing. I think shadow boxing shoes is cute.

I had a friend do this. I think she used her daughter's sandals. They're bronzed bookends and she uses them on her daughter's bookshelf. I've never heard of it before but it looks really cute!
