A friend of mine suggested we do baby swim lessons together. Her lo is 2 months younger than mine. I think I might save up to do this, at least once.
Have you done infant swim lessons? How did it go?

I would LOVE to! Sadly, there aren't any lessons close enough that it would work for our family's schedule. Hopefully, she can take them at our neighborhood pool this summer!

DH will be starting swim lessons with LO next week! He's super excited about it even though it wasn't easy finding a class time to fit into our schedule. Why are all baby classes scheduled during typical nap times?!?!

Yes, we started swim lessons at 5 months. He goes every saturday morning. We get the best nap after class!

My husband wants to take G for swim lessons. but with all of his ear infections recently, i'm hesitant because i'm afraid they'll become even more of an issue.

we never did swim lessons. probably won't do them until the kids get older since we don't have a pool.

I used to teach swim lessons when I was in high school/early college - I loved teaching the baby/parent classes!

@Sammyfab: I find that ANYTHING baby-related is during naptime, like library time, mommy and me, etc. What the hell...
@Mrsbells: The pool i went to uses 50% chlorine, 50% salt water for the baby pool. You can call and find out if there's a different composition for the baby pool. It's also much warmer.
We did swim lessons when she turned 6 months old, and it was great! She was pretty indifferent about it though, neither excited nor upset.

I will definitely teach our baby to swim! It's always astonishing to me when I find out adults can't swim or are really uncomfortable in the water.
I used to volunteer-teach toddler swim classes and for the most part, especially at a young age, it is just about building their confidence in the water, making them comfortable in the water, and teaching them that it is fun! I think the younger you start the better! Most cities have a rec center that offers classes really cheap, and I know a lot of people who learned at the YMCA. I'm honestly not sure if that's free or really cheap.
I highly recommend it though, because I've seen kids (in my own family even) who were thrown in the pool or never taught until they were in elementary school and that lack of confidence and comfort in the water shows a lot and makes a huge difference in swimming skills!

We don't do real lessons, but we do sign up for parent / baby swim time at the pool at the daycare in town. It's not an actual class... just supervised time in the pool with a lifeguard present. DD loved it in the fall, but we only made it a few times b/c of sicknesses and my work travel. I'm hoping we can do it more regularly this winter.

We started at around 21 months, but I suggest doing it earlier because my son was quite fearful of the instructor (more than the water!) We are going to start back up in February and I'm planning to actually go into the pool with him.

Not yet but we will this summer in our pool. The reason bc infant swim lessons are really about letting your baby be comfortable in the pool. My husband is a really great swimmer and feels comfortable doing this with m

YES! We plan on getting LO into lessons as young as possible because we have an underground pool in our backyard. I can not possibly relax knowing that LO doesn't know how to swim.

We did last summer at just over a year old. In our case it was a waste of time because I can teach him to swim and we wanted the interaction. But it was here's the baby pool play and let's get in the big pool. No instruction for us or direction. This summer we are going to do semi private lessons for at least 2 weeks and hopefully he can get into level 1. He's just a little young (he will be barely 2.)
