If you baby wear, what would you do if you go to an amusement park all day? Like 10-12 hours. Would you be able to baby wear all day? Or do you have a stroller?

Erm, definitely not. Stroller for sure. LO is 15 lbs now and after running errands for a few hours wearing her I am broken LOL

Nooo way! I would definitely need to have a stroller. Even with the ergo, I can do maybe 2-3 hours max, then my shoulder start to hurt. It also depends how big the baby is--my guy is little and I still can't imagine wearing him all day long! But maybe if you could switch off with DH? EIther way, I still think a stroller would be necessary!

I would alternate between between baby wearing and stroller. My son is 17+ lbs so my back hurts after an hour in the bjorn!

Yeah, I max out at a couple of hours. She's 23lbs and... no way.

I'd bring a stroller for that amount of time. E would want to lay down and sleep at some point and sleeping in the carrier can get uncomfortable. Plus being out in the sun all day, wearing a baby sounds like a sweaty mess for both of us.

I have baby worn all day on numerous occasions. Never had a stroller. I would use a light-weight wrap, like a Bali Breeze that can fold up compactly when not in use and was capable of a variety of carries as I would probably want to change carries throughout the day depending on what was going on. I'd say especially in a busy environment like that baby/toddler/child would probably want some extra closeness. How old would the child be? That might change my recommendation.

I would bring both. DD (6 months) wanted out of the carrier after 3 hours.

Hell to the no. I had to stop baby wearing when she hit about 15 pounds, I just didn't have the strength. Now I have far more, but I can't comfortably baby wear for more than a few hours.

My LO only weighs 12 lbs and there is no way! Stroller for sure.

I babywore all day even at home. Our first really needed that and it's great for bonding.
nectarine / 2054 posts
Stroller would be much easier. We just went on a trip with our LO where we couldn't use the stroller (too many bridges/stairs everywhere), and DH and I alternated wearing him, so we each wore him for probably 4 hours or so each day. That was plenty! Our shoulders were definitely aching by the end of the day.

@Mrs. Jacks; I was starting to wonder if I was the only one! I wore my (then) 4-year-old at Disney. I think it's totally do-able.

LO and I get sweaty for 20 minutes in target. Can't imagine all day at an amusement park!

I would take the carrier and stroller. LO really likes both, but the carrier is especially necessary for when she's overstimulated.
blogger / nectarine / 2608 posts
@Weagle; that's what I was thinking. An amusement park for a little one might get a little much sometimes and a carrier is just more comforting than a stroller in those situations. Little one might love the busyness, or might be scared, or love some things and need breaks from others.

@Monkula: not sure how old the child would be. Just kind of planning a bit for a "maybe".
I want to baby wear but I have no experience with it, so do you think I would totally fail at it? We're going to Disneyland in july and for Christmas and we may or may not have an infant with us. Anyways I'm just trying to figure out what would be best!
coconut / 8234 posts
@anonysquire: Depends on the size of the baby. When my LO was smaller I would wear her all day, but she was tiny and it only started bothering me after a long day. Now that she's almost 1, I would need breaks, and I'm sure she would, too.
I'd make sure you have a carrier that both you and DH find comfortable so you can trade off. For older/heavier babies, back carrying with an ergonomic carrier would be best...for me it would have to be a soft-structured carrier, but I would also bring a light umbrella stroller. My LO likes both.
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@mrsjazz: would that be too neurotic if I brought an ergo, a soft carrier and a stroller?
squash / 13764 posts
@anonysquire: Well depending on how old the baby is you might not be able to use an umbrella stroller...but you could use a snap and go in that case!
coconut / 8681 posts
Oh gosh I definitely couldn't! E is almost 20 pounds. Just wearing him for a nap in the Ergo at the zoo the other day hurt my back! I'd take a stroller too
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@hilsy85: I'm not sure what a umbrella stroller or snap and go is. How old is too old for a stroller?
nectarine / 2217 posts
for a whole day out i think i would ideally love to have the carrier (ergo or beco) and the stroller
nectarine / 2217 posts
@anonysquire: i think for whole day trips kids up to 3 yrs old still love the stroller! esp if there is a lot of walking!
it's also useful for toting around bags/shopping/food when not in use by the little person
i do love babywearing, but it does get achy after a few hours, and can be hot, even when the weather is cool :).
squash / 13764 posts
@anonysquire: most umbrella strollers can't be used until 6 months or so, unless they recline. So you could use a snap and go, which is a frame that the car seat snaps into. But honestly I can't imagine bing outside all day with an infant anywhere, especially not in the hot sun at a crowded park...just something to think about!
coconut / 8234 posts
@anonysquire: I guess it depends on how old/heavy the baby is. I've actually carried 2 carriers and a stroller with me on an outing before! One was similar to a Moby but less fabric so it fit in the diaper bag, the other I kept in the bucket of the stroller.
But if you find a carrier that you find really comfortable, I think you can bypass bringing both. You should probably have one with a hood since you'll be in the sun!

@anonysquire: It will probably be way too hot in July to baby wear for that long! I would definitely encourage you to take the carrier and a stroller. We have an annual pass to Disneyland and go at least once a month. My almost 4 year old still sits in the stroller...he will walk and take breaks in the stroller. As a previous poster stated, a stroller also comes in handy to store your belongings in.

@anonysquire: I think you're talking about fostering right?? Just a heads up, I know depending on the parental situation you can't take foster kids out of state or need court approval. I'm sure you could use respite care if you made plans and kids couldn't go though! I'm no expert and you probably already know that but I figured I'd mention it since DH and I were just talking about it.
I cannot imagine baby wearing all day let alone carrying all the gear for a day so if I were you I'd plan on a stroller and an ergo!
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@scg00387: thanks! Our caseworker said as long as we let them know 2 weeks before we leave there would be no problem getting approval from the judge. We of course would let them know before 2 weeks and if for some reason the kids couldn't gone would find respite

@anonysquire: figured you were on top of it and that's awesome! I'm jealous of all your travel plans!
eggplant / 11824 posts
I'd bring/rent a stroller just for all the baby gear. I can comfortably babywear LO in a sling for several hours, but not haul her and diaper bag and camera and stuff!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I haven't actually baby worn yet but I hear some kids just like it a lot more than others, too, which you won't know until you try. I agree with others on having both with you, and getting a good supportive carrier like a beco or ergo. I also hear a back carry is better for long days like that than a front carry.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
I personally couldn't, because I get warm really easily - never mind in Disney. I'm usually sweating bullets and I haven't even been with a baby yet, lol. We are going to Disney in May, LO will be 8 months and we're bringing the city mini - and the ergo just for the airport!
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@Monkula: Totally do-able!
My now 2.5 year old was really light, but we could wear her all day until she was about 13 months (then she really wanted to walk). I still wear her for hikes.
An infant can easily be worn all day.
Maybe bring an umbrella stroller to give yourself a break, but our girls would only sleep in babywearing while we were out and about.
pomelo / 5178 posts
@anonysquire: if you're going to Disney, I would just take a carrier. You can always rent a stroller in the park, if it gets to be too much.
