Just spoke to a friend who's babysitter is claiming that she fell while at their house watching their kid and had to go to the hospital. Nothing was mentioned about a fall when the sitter left their house, they just got a text around midnight from her in the hospital. Apparently, she dropped off workers comp papers to my friends husband this afternoon. Has anyone delt with anything like this and have any advice for them? Is this even a thing? I didn't realize that workers comp would extend to part time babysitters?

I don't know much about this but do remember that our homeowners' insurance has coverage of people injured on our property. Would that coverage apply in this case?

Yikes! I was going to suggest looking into homeowners insurance and also documenting everything that is said between the parties.
I would also have your friend check with the state laws since those vary so widely.

If she wants to file a workers comp claim I surely hope she also files taxes for the money she is making off your friend. So sad these crooks pull this garbage.

She should check with a lawyer ASAP. Workman's comp laws vary by state. If you friend has inadvertently run afoul of her state's regulations, this could get pretty expensive for her.

@Boogs: although most people don't, employers are supposed to pay taxes on their babysitters/nannies too. If she's paying her under the table, the workmans comp claim - even if it's bs - can trigger a tax investigation and result in some pretty big fine for the op's friend.

@skibobrown: they are treating until their house is finished being built, so maybe renters insurance, or the landlord? I'll have her check.

@Madison43: this is their backup care sitter, they use her maybe once every 2 months so it would be pretty bad for a big deal to come out of such a seemingly small thing. Calling their lawyer sounds like a good idea.
@Boogs: that's along the lines of what I'm thinking. If she truly hurt herself at their house, why not talk to them about it? To come straight out of the gate with workmans comp claims seems suspicious to me...
