If you had back labor, was it only in your lower back? Or did you feel it further up too? I just started having these weird shooting pains in my back, but it is my mid back like right in between my shoulder blades and came out of nowhere. It went away a little, but then came back maybe 5-10 minutes later. I always thought back labor was just in your lower back… Is this just a weird pregnancy back pain problem?

Mine was just in my low back. But everything hurt at that point in pregnancy. Try a heating pad, some Tylenol, a hot shower, etc. If it's labor, nothing will make it stop.

Back labor is THE WORST PAIN EVER! It was all in my lower back.

Mine was all in my lower back, though sometimes it would radiate out to the front too for extra fun

Lower back to start with, by the end it was my entire back.

Mine was in my lower back and would radiate out towards my hips. DH spent the whole of my 11 hour labor putting counter-pressure on my back with his hands. Back labor is horrible!

Lower back, hips, and even around my butt. It was the worst, but I never experienced "regular" labor so I can't compare.

Mine was in the lower back. It wasn't a shooting pain. Like @littlefox I thought it was terrible but I NEVER had terrible pain in the front, it was all back labor...

The only labor I experienced was back labor and it was like being electrocuted/seizure/sledgehammer in my lower back but would shoot through hips and occasionally up my spine. I never felt contractions in my abdomen.

Mine was just in the lower back--mostly around the sides of it, not so much the middle. I've never felt any pain around the front.

I got those shooting pains as a form of braxton hicks. I've been getting them again this pregnancy. Back labor is lower and is pretty awful.

I assumed it wasn't back labor, but the pain was that shooting, sledge hammer pain you guys describe, just not in my lower back. My DH questioned if it could be back labor. I have been having more contractions the past couple days and thought it didn't hurt to ask! My labor with DS started with my water breaking so I am new to the whole contractions/timing thing.

Oh back labor. It was awful. I never felt a contraction in the front like most women! It was a low pain like I had really bad menstrual cramps. Over and over and over again.

@rachiecakes: that is exactly what it felt like for me too. I even have residual numbness in the top of my left thigh from one of the monster (quad-stacked pit contraction) contractions. I did not know it was possible to experience pain like that and not pass out!

Just my lower back! And mostly on my right side. And I still have problems there because of it. Ugh.

@MsLipGloss: I also felt a total loss of control, of everything, during the contractions. I couldn't see, everything would black out, I'd stutter trying to talk. It started immediately after my water broke when I turned over in bed. I was very glad I wasn't driving or out in public!

That is what my labor was. Horrendous back pain. I never felt a contraction the way it was described. .. just unimaginable lower back and hip pain.
