I'm a FTM, so please bear with me if this is a silly question. For those of you who have given birth, I was wondering if there was a correlation between being dilated early and giving birth earlier.
I had a fluid scare earlier this week and it turns out that at 33 1/2 weeks, I am already 2 cm dilated. When I had an ultrasound yesterday they told me that baby boy's head is firmly in my pelvis and he's in a ready position. I'm 34 weeks as of today, so I still have a few weeks, but now I can't help but wonder if I will go soon after 37 weeks with these signs or if this is just how it's going to be until my due date.
Did any of you have similar stories and when did you give birth?

I was 2cm for 4 weeks before my DD was born! I swore she would come early, but she came right on time.

I firmly believe dilation does NOT have any indication on when you will go into labor.....though I really wish it did!
I was 3.5 centimeters dilated at 38 weeks and 5 centimeters dilated at 39 weeks. It is ABSOLUTE MADNESS that I was just walking around halfway dilated, but I still never went into labor on my own. I was induced at 40 weeks due to high BP.

Yeah, sorry, probably not much of an indication. Even IN labor, dilation is not a real great indicator of how long labor will take. But I've known of women who walk around eventually dilated to 8 (so not exaggerating) and go to 41 weeks before labor ever happens.

It really has no bearing unfortunately. I was only 1/2 cm dilated when I was induced at 40w5d. My active labor was only 6 hours and I went from a 4 to a 10 in about 3. It really varies woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy.
