Tonight was the first time I bathed R without the infant sling. Girlfriend loved it!! It was the only time she was happy tonight. We have been putting the soap in the tub and making it a bubble bath. But she was eating the toys tonight. Is this ok?
Or do we need to just put the soap on a washcloth and not make it a bubble bath?

I think eating a little soap is fine, but I usually let the kids play in the water and will use a little bit of soap on my hands or a wash cloth to wash their hands/feet and privates! The kids don't get very dirty since they're home most of the day.

I used to use a washcloth, but I've found it's so much easier to use my hands. I still use a warm washcloth to wipe her face. I assume some soap in her mouth would be ok, though.

I usually put soap in the water, let her play around and soak for a while, then use my hands to clean her body and nether-regions. DD likes to eat the bubbles and drink the bathwater out of her toys. Kinda gross, but I figure it's ok.

I just put the soap on my hand and rub it all over her. We did a bubble bath once and she loved the bubbles, but I was worried about her ingesting it too (even though it was supposed to be "safe").

I use Cetaphil for her body and hair . . . I just rub it on her torso and lady bits (and lather her head) and call it good . . . I try to get arms/legs too, but it's okay if I don't get them every day. I use the Cetaphil Gentle Wash (it's like a lotion) for her body, and the regular Cetaphil wash for her hurr (it lathers).

@shopaholic: That is what I was thinking. I know it is supposed to be ok, but it is soap. I don't what her to eat it.

I wash her first with soap and rinse her off. And then I put her in the bath tub (with just water). She kept eating the bubbles, too! So I decided to do water-only baths from now on!

@MsLipGloss: regarding the cetaphil for the hair...does it sting her eyes? This sounds like a fabulous idea and I want to try it with my son!

Could you let her play, then soap her up, rinse, and fill with fresh if you want her to play more? Eating soap just sounds gross even if harmless. I would try to find something very safe

@blackbird: I was thinking filling with just water and letting her play, and then wash body and hair in the last couple mins and then take her out. I don't want to fill the water up twice, seems wasteful. Not to mention she would probably scream if I took her water away

Oh true-didn't think about that. We are still in the sink and I've had to drain the puj tub a couple times and refill with fresh water. But it takes 15 seconds

@Smurfette: This is the way we do it. E doesn't try to eat the bubbles (the few times I've given him bubbles) but he does like to chew on the washcloth/toys/drink the water. I'm sure it would be fine every now and again, but I just don't think I'm okay with him drinking soap every night. So I fill the tub, let him play his fill, and then soap him up/rinse him off at the very end.

@looch: I do everything I can to make sure it doesn't get in her eyes, and even though the rinse water has run down her face multiple times, I haven't had any problems so far!

We let him splash and play first then wash with soap before getting out so that he doesn't get a bunch of soap-water in his mouth. A little soap probably doesn't hurt now and then though!

@Smurfette: how old is your LO now? I have been wondering how long to use the little bath with sling. Are you using the little tub still or regular tub?

@delight: she is 6 months. I waited till she sits up really well. We are using the baby tub still just no sling to support her. I think she is too lite for the whole tub.

@Smurfette: the only caution I've heard about bubble baths for girls is that the soap can irritate their private parts, so I would just be careful of that!
We put a teeny bit of bubbles in the water and then I just use my hands to soap his feet, butt, stomach, and arms.

@hilsy85: good call! I remember when my cousin and I were like 7 this happened to her. She was crying so much.
