Does anyone have experience with bathroom remodels? How long does it take? What kind of budget did you have?

We are in our starter house right now, and our bathroom.....is well.....disgusting. I've hated it ever since we moved in. We have pink tile. everywhere.....it's awful. So much grout is missing from the bath area, and it just needs to get redone. The thing is, is that since this is our starter house, we don't want to put much money into it at all. We have set a budget of $4000 ($5000 max!) but now that I'm researching, I don't think this is doable......please anyone that has experience weigh in here!
