Can you DIY any? What about buying your own supplies and having them do install? That can cut out the "middle man" cost?

Bathroom reno is further down the list for us but we just redid our kitchen. Wayfair.com and their daily fair is a great source for cheap quality items. We bought a $400 stainless steel sink for $200!

@mrs. 64: any chance to save the tub and "paint" it? My ILs redid their bathroom and kept the tub but repainted it. Also check back aisles of home improvement stores. A lot of times they have special order items that customers order then return. They mark them down priced to sell!

We also have pink tile in our master bathroom. We are hoping to renovate before having our first baby at the end of the year but the cost is going to be a big factor. I think a lot of high dollar numbers are tied to your tile selection, and the amount of tile in the bathroom. I hope you have contractors that you can work with to lower the costs.

Also we have a blue bathroom complete with blue seashell vanities.

Maybe just hire out for the "big" jobs that you dont feel comfortable doing? Like drywall, tile, plumbing, etc.

I feel you. We have a 1940s bungalow with the original pink bathroom too. It's going to be gutted as soon as we move home.

we were SHOCKED by the costs we were quoted on a similar job (and also by how the contractors were unresponsive, ignored us, were unprofessional. So.. no help.. just commiseration! You can check out a habitat for humanity restore for great deals on cabinets and sinks, etc.

A good way to keep costs down is to keep fixtures (tub, sink, toilet) where they already are. Moving pipes can get pricey! Also, look for deals online for tile.
