My mom thinks we NEED to get towel hooks for our kids in their bathroom. I guess so they can learn to hang up their own towel? We have a large towel bar behind the door and an over the door hook.
What do you recommend?

We have both in different bathrooms. I prefer the look of the hooks, but towels take longer to dry on them, since they are more bunched up. So, generally we hang the towels on the shower curtain rod and move them to the hook when they are dry or when the next person showers.
Once we do an addition and add a master bath on, I think I will go with bars in all bathrooms, since we'll be spreading the showers/baths out more amongst the bathrooms.
So, moral of the story I guess is that I'm using hooks because I didn't want 3 rods.

I definitely prefer towel bars. We only have hooks in our (small) master bath and sometimes it still feels wet the next morning. Yuck.

I hate towel hooks because I still find it hard to hang up towels and keep them up, despite growing up with hooks

I guess the advantage for kids is that you can do three hooks for theee towels where you can't really hang three bars.

My towels always fall off towel hooks!!
For hooded towels, fine. Normal towels? No way.

Bars. It seems to me that hooks are only a good idea if you like soggy towels.
You can get over the door bars if you want that feature.

I prefer hooks because they take up less space and are faster to hang up. But I agree towels stay wet longer.
My problem with towel bars is they are often stacked on top of each other so you can only hang one towel.

This is the first house I have had hooks and I prefer them because my DH and DS will actually hang them up instead of leaving them on the ground. DH apparently finds folding onto a bar too much work I never noticed that it takes them longer to dry, but we only use them once a day so they are always dry by the next shower/bath .

@travellingbee: That's exactly why I chose hooks for our house last year. And toilet paper holders that you don't have to remove and replace, but just slide on and off the side. If it will get me assistance, then that's what I choose

@Jess1483: seriously. I need those toilet paper holders too!

@travellingbee: We actually patched walls and removed perfectly good toilet paper holders because my husband promised he'd replace them if it was the easy kind. I regret nothing.

We got this for our master bath (DH, DD and I all bathe/shower there) and it works awesome! It's really the best of both worlds.

We have one bar on our master shower door and one hook next to it.
I prefer the hook, husband prefers the bar.
I have THICK towels and I've never noticed that the one on the hook is still wet when I take my next shower (24 hours). But I also have a way of hanging it so it's not so bunched.

I prefer hooks. As each bathroom gets repainted I am swithing out the towel bars for hooks. Even our thick towels work with the Anthro B&W hooks.

How about a towel warmer?!?! When I lived in England we had one of those and that was absolutely amazing!

We compromised with both. I have a towel hook outside the shower for mine, and we chose a double towel bar as well that can hold 2-4 towels. Worth it!!

Hooks! We have small bathrooms and I don't want to waste precious space with a bunch of towel bars.

I have both in my bathroom. I use the hook to hang my robe and the bar to hang my towel. I think it depends what kind of towels you have, though, because I just bought a Turkish towel which I think would look better hung on the hook, but then the bar would be empty and look stupid.
