I don't have a LO yet so bear with me here... How many naps does she take a day? Is there any way to shift her sleep schedule so she wakes up a little later in the morning? What about a later afternoon nap so she can stay up longer until DH comes home?

We get home at 6:00 and his bedtime is 8:30.

When he was younger we would let him take a short cat nap once we got home so that he wouldn't be fussy later. The nap never affected his night sleep, and he would sleep from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. We did it this way so that we could spend more time with him at night, and so he wouldn't wake up too early in the morning. {I'm solo in the mornings, and this allows me to get ready and get things done around the house before leaving for the day.}

My husband was able to shift his work schedule a little so he spends more time in the AM with our LO since he's always awake by 6:30am. They eat breakfast and play for a bit, then he leaves at 8:45pm and is back by 7pm, right before LO goes to bed for 7:15/7:30.

@Foodnerd81: DH fortunately has a job with somewhat flexible hours, so he goes in early and tries to be home by 445. Some days it's unavoidable, and he gets home at 5:15, LO skipped his second nap so dinner is at 5:30 and he was in bed asleep by 6:30.

I do try to call and warn him if bedtime is going to be earlier than normal in the hopes he can come home earlier and catch up on work from home when LO is in bed. But that isn't helpful if your SO can't adjust their hours!

DH and I carpool and we pick up DS at daycare around 4:45pm. Bedtime is 7pm. He's often cranky when we pick him up because he doesn't nap well at daycare, so we are lucky if we get 2 hours of (happy) awake time.

@Foodnerd81: how old is she again? When DS started napping better, everything was easier. DH gets home around 6 and DS goes to bed around 8. If he wakes up early in the morning I will put him in bed with me and he will go back to sleep. That way his schedule is shifted a bit and he is up on the later side.

DS used to go to bed at 9, and DH would get home at 7:30. DH then got a new shift and got home at 6:30. We aren't sure if DS got 'confused', but he moved his bed time up to 8 after that. So he still only gets an hour and a half with DH at night.

I pick DS up from daycare between 5 and 530 and start bedtime routine around 630, asleep by 7, and wake up at 7am. I hate, hate the fact I get so little time to see him, but what we lack on weekdays, we make up for on the weekends!

We get home at 630 and LO goes down right around 8.

LO goes to bed at 8, and I get home between 6:30 and 7, and DH usually around 6. So we usually get to spend some fun time with him before he goes to bed.

My LO goes to bed at 5 pm. I pick her up from daycare at 4 pm so it's a rush to get home, feed her dinner, and maybe give her a bath. My SO doesn't get to see her at all before bed.

I get home from work between 5:30 and 6. DH picks up LO from daycare and gets home between 4:30 and 5. We usually get him to bed between 7 and 7:30. So usually I get about an hour at most with him before getting ready for bed. Totally stinks but we have to be up and out the door by 7am so in order for him to get enough sleep we need to keep an earlier bedtime.

@Foodnerd81: DS started napping better around 6 months. But now at 11 months it is crap again. He seems to be able to stay up until at least 8, no matter if he naps or not. Maybe it will get easier when she is older, but now I would just let her sleep when she needs it.

We usually are doing bedtime stuff between 7 and 8.

Can you husband have time in the morning with your LO? Not sure about what the mornings look like for you, but for a while, that was when my husband and son hung out a lot!
