B is in the throes of teething and the last few nights have been tough for him going to sleep and staying asleep. He normally STTN with no issues but last night woke up 4 or 5 times crying. We've used the Little Teethers Gel a few times but I just saw that the FDA doesn't recommend Benzocaine products for children under 2. When do you decide that Tylenol is necessary for teething? Or does anyone have any other good recommendations? We use teething rings during the day and we've given him ice cubes in a mesh feeder which he loved sucking on. We've only just started but teething is definitely no fun.

We have been dealing with a similar situation for a few weeks. My daughter grabbed her ears often and cried, and it was obvious to me that she was uncomfortable (ped told me teething can make ears hurt), so I opted to give tylenol or motrin at bedtime. She had crap sleep anyway bc it started before we began sleep training last week, but I know my daughter, and she did not feel good so I was fine with giving her medicine to help her. Our ped was fine with it too, as long as you dose it properly. So it's really a personal choice of when you are ready or how uncomfortable you think he is, bc you know better than anyone:). I hope your LO feels better soon!

We are going through the exact same thing here. He woke up 5 times fri night.
I've been avoiding Tylenol as much as possible. If I've fed him, diapered him and cuddled him, and he's still crying after 15m, that's when I give Tylenol.
I have a really really happy baby, so I assume that when he's crying like that its because of pain. I've probably given 4 doses of Tylenol since he started teething...
We have 1 tooth....waiting for tooth#2 to come thri. -
Oh and our LO does the ear grabbing as a sign of sleep...so it doesn't work for us as a pain sign.....for us it's the crying and burying his face in the mattress.

@PrincessBaby: He started with the ear grabbing too. I worried for a second it was an ear infection and was so relieved when I found out it goes along with teething. I've read some of your troubles with H and like you said you know your own baby and they're thresholds.
I've heard how painful teething actually is for them and I know I would want some relief. @wheres_c: B's also normally a super happy so it breaks my heart when I see him in pain. That's a good idea to wait to see if he goes to sleep with some extra love. Since we're just starting out with this I don't always want to jump the gun with the Tylenol.

I think my B has a high pain tolerance too....he just got bloodwork and didnt even cry while they tried to find his vein......that's why I figure I would use the crying as my main cue.
I've heard how painful teething actually is for them and I know I would want some relief. Reply
