I have some questions for Bees who have Nannys.
1) Is yours live-in or live-out? Why did you decide to go this direction?
2) How did you find your Nanny?
3) How many hours per day or week do they normally work?
4) How do you handle overtime and/or vacation time?
5) If you don't work through an agency, how do you handle payroll and taxes?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!!

1) Is yours live-in or live-out? Why did you decide to go this direction? Live out for privacy for both parties.
2) How did you find your Nanny? Care.com and trial and error. Third time was the charm.
3) How many hours per day or week do they normally work? 40-50
4) How do you handle overtime and/or vacation time? 2 weeks paid vacation, overtime compensated at regular rate, we usually give a bonus that week.
5) If you don't work through an agency, how do you handle payroll and taxes? There are web based payroll resources.
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!! -
1. live-out. we just wanted childcare during the hours that my dh and i work.
2. we used an agency that came highly recommended from many families at our church. we did a brief interview and they sent 3-4 candidates for us to choose from and ultimately pick (or if we didn't like any they would have kept sending us different candidates, up to a certain point i suppose).
3. 8 hours per day, 3 days a week right now. but that will be increasing shortly as i eventually work more from the office and less from home.
4. set by agency so we didn't have to discuss it. obviously if our nanny needed more vacation days or sick time, we would just discuss it with her directly but the general guidelines are established already.
5. agency so luckily we don't have to handle that, and a big reason why we went through an agency.hth!

overtime = time and a half, 2 weeks paid vacation -- 1 week they choose 1 week we choose

Our nanny just started, but this is what we did / are doing with her:
1) Is yours live-in or live-out? Why did you decide to go this direction?
Live-out. Don't want to have the nanny around all the time, and also no room.
2) How did you find your Nanny?
Through our baby nurse, who we found through a recommendation on a parents' listserv.
3) How many hours per day or week do they normally work?
50 hours
4) How do you handle overtime and/or vacation time?
Same as the bees - overtime = time and a half, 2 weeks paid vacation - 1 week they choose 1 week we choose
5) If you don't work through an agency, how do you handle payroll and taxes?
We also use a payroll service - there are several online that many people use - Breedlove, GTM, 4NannyTaxes to name a few. -
