My DD1 is turning 2 in a month and we have so many toys. I'd like to ask that if people bring a gift, that it be a book because she's outgrown a big chunk of our book collection. I was thinking of creating a list of book suggestions in case anyone asks.
So, what are some of your 2+ year olds favourite books?

My 2.5 year old LOVES Dr. Seuss books as well as the Berenstain Bears.

We tend to look for books based on his interests now that he's older. For example, his three main interests are the solar system, dinosaurs, and construction machines. We had bought books accordingly. I would probably focus more on saying she doesn't have many age appropriate books and you would love some and her interests right now are xyz.

I also love all books by Audrey wood (napping house, silly sally) and Barbara Berger (some are out of print but worth buying in any format you can get them!)

My 2 year old loves trucks/cars/trains so we read a lot of Thomas books. He also loves Curious George books. We don't own any of these but check them out from the library. But I second the person who said look for books that correspond with their interests. He loves anything construction/truck/car/train related no matter what. We read lots of other books too, but that's always a good place to start.

My sil and bil got him a copy of "the boy who lost his name" (or something like that) for Christmas and he loves it. It's personalized so you end up with his name and he likes that plus all the little stories along the way.

Oh, one more- he loves Peek a Boo by Nina Laden. I think she has a few along those lines and they're all great. They're small so I can bring them in my bag for when we're in the car/out somewhere .

There are some great suggestions here! My LO (19 mo) is really into books, and currently is obsessed with Raffi singalong books (Wheels on the Bus, Down by the Bay, and Baby Balooga). The go-to books that LO could read over and over and over (and over...) are Little Blue Truck, Runaway Bunny, Press Here, Maisy Goes to Preschool, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Stars, the Richard Scarry "Best Storybook Ever," and all Eric Carle books (specifically Brown Bear Brown Bear, the Hungry Caterpillar, and Pancakes, Pancakes).

There are 3 books by Jon Klassen about animals looking for hats that are adorable, funny for grown ups, and lo looooves (esp the original, I want my hat back-- lo loves saying "thank you anyway!" After the bear does on each page, it's good repetitive language for toddler participation!)
