My dreadful tube of mascara FINALLY ran out, and I need to find a new one. I already have long eyelashes so I mostly just want to darken them. My main criteria is something smudge proof!
It has to be cheap (hence the drugstore distinction).
Go!

My go-to drugstore mascara is CoverGirl Lash Blast waterproof in the chunky orange tube. Been using it for years and still not disappointed.

Based a recommendation on one of the postings on HB I tried Cover Girl's LastBlast Volume mascara (the orange tube, non-water proof) and have really been liking it. http://www.covergirl.com/eye-makeup/mascara/lashblast-volumizing-mascara

My ultimate favorite is Maybelline VolumeExpress Falsies. It holds a curl like crazy and it's smudgeproof (I buy the waterproof one).

@banana: thank youuu!! will try this one next! (I've been using lash stilletto voluptuous waterproof)

My forever go-to is L'Oreal Voluminous. I've tried everything else under the sun - cheap, expensive, you name it. I always regret cheating on Voluminous!

Another vote for Cover girl lash blast volume in the orange tube or I also like the lash exact one (purple tube), non-waterproof. I tried the waterproof once and it was so hard to get off! I like to just take it off in the shower when I wash my face and the waterproof one was so gunky and hard to get off. I felt like I was going to pull out all my lashes trying to get it off even when I then tried to use makeup remover!

@mrs. wagon: TRY IT and let me know what you think! I've tried 5 other ones and this one worked the best for me. My eyelashes are short and straight and all of the other mascaras didn't work. Make sure you buy the waterproof one! Do you curl your lashes? I curl mine and this one actually will hold it!
ETA: It doesn't really make your lashes longer. It makes them thicker and holds a curl (which is what I want). Just in case you expected super long lashes with this. It does make them a little longer but not dramatically.

CoverGirl Lash Blast for me, as well! Love it! The H20 proof is REALLY hard to get off but works awesome if you have smeary eyelash problems.

@mrskc: If you ever end up needing an eye makeup remover, try Lancome Bifacil. Expensive but SO worth it!

I'm a fan of CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion (purple tube) non-waterproof. I've tried others and keep coming back to this one.

@grizz: mine as well, although I am intrigued by the Full and Soft!

I second the Maybelline Full n Soft or the Falsies...or any Maybelline mascara. It's the only drugstore brand that holds the curl on my super straight lashes, doesn't clump a bunch, and doesn't dry out too fast.
It makes me really sad because everyone loves the Covergirl Lashblast, but it has never worked for me!

I love Maybelline Colossal...it's a yellow tube with leopard print. I'm pretty happy with it!

@boots: Haven't tried full n soft but I LOVE my Falsies one. I may try this one next when they have a buy one, get one sale.

@banana: good to know! I just could never get into using makeup remover. I always found it easier to just use soap and water.

@mrskc: Oh I would love to just use soap and water too! But I absolutely need to have waterproof mascara because they hold curls the best and my eyelashes are super straight. So I'm stuck using eye makeup remover.

Maybelline Full N Soft in waterproof is my favorite!

@grizz: i agree. i tried lashblast because so many people rave about it, and i've tried many, many others.... but i always go back to voluminous.

@banana: twinsies again. My lashes aren't super short but they are STICK straight and point straight down. I curl them every day even if it's the weekend and I'm not wearing mascara because otherwise they obscure my vision!! I have tried many many many many drugstore mascaras and most of them straighten my lashes the second the liquid touches them, even waterproof ones. My history of successes (as the companies have discontinued these, argh!!) has been: L'oreal Le Grand Curl, then Maybelline Sky High Curves, then for a while I was floating around until I finally found Maybelline Lash Stilletto. I'm happy with it but not super happy... can't wait to try the Falsies one! I think I have a coupon too!

@banana: i've been using it for over a decade! yep pricey, but i so rarely wear makeup that it lasts me forever!

@banana: have you tried the neutrogena makeup remover wipes? they take off my waterproof mascara! It takes a bit of gentle scrubbing but I so prefer that to the eye makeup remover.
coconut / 8299 posts
@mrs. wagon: Cool! As with a lot of waterproof mascaras, the tubes dry out quickly so I end up buying a bunch of them when they have BOGO sales. I haven't tried Stilletto so maybe I"ll try that one, too! Lash blast didn't work for me.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
@banana: yep I think I have 2 new tubes waiting because I hate when they dry out so quick. Lash blast was a big fat fail for me too.

@banana: Have you tried the Sonia Kashuk eye makeup remover (sold at Target)? It's right around $10 for a good sized container that lasts for-ev-er and it's pretty great! Two cotton rounds, hold over each eye for 10-20 seconds, and everything comes off with minimal tugging!
coconut / 8299 posts
@mrs. wagon: I haven't!! I'm going to try that now! Bifacil is so pricey!
@Mrs. Bee: I wear mascara almost every day so it doesn't last me that long. But this is the only brand that works well for me. I'm going to try the Neutrogena one that Mrs. Wagon suggested though! I know you also use Cle de Peau concealer (I've been using that forever!). Trying to find one that works just as well but cheaper. Still looking!

@MsLipGloss: Trying this one too!! I'm excited to try all of these cheaper alternatives!!!

@banana: geekinheels recommended the milani brand:
http://www.geekinheels.com/2013/06/25/three-new-product-raves.html
bifacils is just so expensive! and my cle de peau lasts forever since i wear makeup like once or twice a month. i like it the best out of other popular brands like ysl, bobbi brown, laura mercier that i've tried.
coconut / 8299 posts
@Mrs. Bee: Ooooh. Milani sounds great. I like that it's dual action like Bifacil. Will have to try that one too! I buy my Bifacil when they have the Free Gift offers. I don't really like any of the other Lancome products though so I'll give the freebies to my MIL. My cle de peau lasts forever but I always lose it! ugh. So lucky you don't have to wear makeup every day. I look like death if I don't at least put on some tinted moisturized and blush. And of course my mascara!

Lash Blast or Loreal Voluminous! They're both fantastic, you really can't go wrong.

@mrs. wagon: @banana: I loooove those Neutrogena wipes! I even had DH run out and get a pack after DS was born just so I could clean my face up while I was stuck in the hospital bed. They work really well!
coconut / 8299 posts
@grizz: So excited to try them now! I have a target gift card that I can use for it!

@Leialou: +1...my mother and I have decided it's the best mascara anywhere
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
@grizz: @banana: I buy them in bulk from Costco!! tried the kirkland brand and they weren't anything like them. There are coupons sometimes. I stocked up last time. I use them every night!
